I am thinking of changing my res for RPR to PB in July.
I am LF Gold, so will get upgrade to pool view, if you take the $35 upgrade what do you get ,a Deluxe room or a suite.
Also , we will not be arriving till about 6:00pm as our flight gets in around 4:00pm,
what would the chances be of getting a suite at either resort with arriving so late.

You will LOVE Portofino Bay Hotel! It is our favorite..especially since they added FOTL. My family has stayed there 2 or 3 times a year since it opened. In all our visits, however, we have NEVER gotten a paid suite upgrade. Your Loews Gold gets you 1 upgrade at booking. We have gotten a double bump from garden view to deluxe a few times; my birthday, low occupancy, etc. Most of the time we get the room we booked. The best view IMHO is from a bay view room, not a noisy pool view. The rooms are wonderful and you won't be disappointed. We enjoy them more than the Disney Deluxe rooms we've stayed in; Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club and Polynesian. We'll be at Portofino for Easter again this year. Safe travels and have a great time!

This is what it states.
Enjoy a premium room, if available, guaranteed at time of reservation. **Enjoy a suite upgrade for only $35 per night, if available upon arrival.**

So I wonder if you book a garden-view if they will upgrade you to a deluxe? When you check-in if a suite is available they will upgrade you to a portofino suite, or MAYBE a villa if they offer it and its available for $35.00 more a night. If it isn't available the deluxe rooms are awesome! Usually the suite upgrade at Portofino is limited to a Portofino Suite but stranger things have happened. ;) As far as arriving later I would guess your chances are as great as the occupancy is booked. Are you going during a busy time?

we are arriving July 14th, and at the minute have RPR booked for 3 weeks , we stayed here last year and really enjoyed it,.
We should have looked at the other hotels when we where there but did not get the chance, and having read reports here and looked at the pics ,i am very tempted to change.
Fan2CSkr, can you just change reservation over or do you have to cancel and rebook with the other hotel, they took 1 nights room rate at time of booking

Hi as you are staying for so long the chances of a suite upgrade is very low for length of stay, I'm platinum and tried for an upgrade in March all that was offered was pool view

3 weeks, wow.

The PBH has bigger rooms and the bathroom is huge. You'd probably like the PBH better if you're staying that long.
July is very busy, so I doubt the upgrade would be available late in the evening. I'd call the manager and ask before arriving. You could check into a cheap hotel when you arrive, then check into the PBH first thing in the morning.

Here are my pictures from our Portofino room from Aug. 2004

thanks for the replies.
Thought about booking into hotel for one night Robiva, but wife was not happy about doing that [although could change] This is our main holiday , so airfare is the same for 1 week or 3 weeks , this is why we are staying for 3 weeks, we stayed in RPR last year for 1 week then Disney resort for 2 weeks, this was our first time, and we loved the RPR and decided if we went back we would stay here for the 3 weeks. But i have seen pics of the other 2 hotels and they are lovely as well, so was thinking of trying one of them prob PB.
I spoke to concerige at RPR [recommened to do this by Fan2CSkr] and i have to call them back about March or April ,he said he would see if he could sort a deal out for our stay as well as sorting out about parking rates.
Might wait till i talk to him, and see what deal he comes up with, before changing resort.
Still to decide on tickets for US.
