What rooms to try and get with a family of six? What all is there to do at the resort? What are some of the best rates to try and get? What kind of discounts become available and when? Should we ask about the HRH instead? Should we stay there one or so days just to enjoy the resort or only for FOTL privileges during the time we spend at the park?

Oh! Just tell me anything and everything! I want to know it all! :smooth:

Hi friskykitten,

I stayed at Portofino in December. This hotel is gorgeous! The rooms are really spacious and the beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on at any hotel. We had a villa pool room and they are located in the Villa Guest wing. There is also an East Guest wing and a West Guest Wing. They offer Garden View rooms, Bay view rooms, pool view rooms ( a bit larger with larger baths) and kids suites as well as other suite types. I am unsure about parties of 6 however. I am sure someone else here can answer that for you.

Another great link :

The Other Orlando

They offer 3 restaurants one deli Sals that offers much more than just deli fare. Great Pizza! A Gelateria that gas wonderful gelatto and coffees. A pizzeria, Splendido (I didnt try this) and I believe 3 bars.

1.Delfino Riviera is an upscale gourmet meal. I didnt get a chance to try this one it was closed when we were there.

2.Trattoria del Porto is their main dining restaurant serving buffet and menu breakfasts daily as well as a charater meal on certain evenings. Other entertainment is also scheduled for different evenings. we had quite a few meals here during out stay and the food and prices were great. Try the marshmellow milkshake!! Yummy:D

3.Mama Della's is a really quaint moderately expensive Italian restaurant. My husband and I had an excellent meal here alone one evening and we really had a great time. The food was very fresh and the service terrific. Mama herself makes rounds and they also have musicians that serenade you. Dinner was around $100

There are some really nice shops as well.

They offer a camp fpr the kids and we took advantage of this one evening...kids loved it! There is also a small arcade (nothing to brag about)

The pool is beautiful and they have a nice slide. You can order drinks poolside and get light lunch foods too. They rent cabanas for those interested.

There is a boat dock that takes you to citywalk every 15? minutes.
The service at this hotel during our stay was first rate. One thing that stands out above other memories was coming back into the hotel at night to our beds turned down the lights dimmed and soft Italian music playing, OH and the best chocolates on the pillows too!:D

If I left anything out or you have any questions just ask! We really loved this place.

Oops! forgot to tell you about rates.

I would first try and see if they have the entertainment rate available. It is usually 1/2 off rack.

Fan Club discounts if you are a member. AAA
Are you going with kids? and what month are you thinking of going?

Yep! We are coming in June 2002 with the kids. I found out that there is a AAA rate of $199 for the standard (cheapest) room. I don't have the Entertainment club anymore or the Fan Club. :( I can ask at my credit union but they probably don't offer it either. Looks like AAA will be the only way to go at this time. My TA told me just to keep quiet about our sixth member (she will have JUST turned 3 when we go). But that seems difficult to hide, you know? So I guess we may be in for an expensive couple of days and getting a suite for all of us. (2 adults, 4 kiddos) I want to stay on-site for the FOTL benefits.

Thanks for all of the WONDERFULL information!! This was great! I'd like to stay at the Royal Pacific but it won't open in time.

Great info...I'm staying in April in a deluxe pool view room.
Does any of you know where these are and are they old villa rooms.I'm so confused!

I also am staying in a deluxe pool view room, they are the same
as the villa rooms, just renamed. I initially booked this room to
receive the benefits of the villa lounge (continental brkfst, free sodas and beer, wine, well drinks) but was disappointed to find
they no longer offer the villa loung benefits, however they are
still advertising that they do (will mention this upon check-in). The
rooms are a little larger and the bathrooms have seperate bathtub and showers.

If you are going to Portofino expecting them to give you concierge like treatment in the villa rooms...don't...it isn't going to happen. You can get those free treats over at a club room at the Hard Rock...but you will have just a room at the Portofino. There is no butler service and no free treats at this time. Hopefully there will be again soon!

You can get a new entertainment book for 2002 from the internet if you can't find one in your hometown. Check this site for entertainment rate sites.. I ordered a book only 2 months from the time we went. It has more than paid for itself in restaurants and activities in my home town plus all of the hotel perks all over the US.
