I went back in November of 2001 - the food was unmemorable and the service pretty much poor. I won't be back for a second try for another few years - IMO, there are too many better places to spend WDW dining dollars. I can, however, enthusiastically recommend Palio, the OUTSTANDING Italian restaurant in the Swan.
ETA the answer to your dress question - it wasn't terribly dressy, but most folks were in a step up from park clothes. Think khaki shorts and a polo shirt. You could get away with jeans and a t-shirt though, if push came to shove - there's no official dress code that I'm aware of.

I have to tell you, Portabello is one of our FAVORITE restaurants. In fact, we will be there Oct. 19th for our first wedding anniversary. We could go to any WDW restaurant to celebrate, but we chose that one.
THe times we have been, I have worn just a sundress or black pants and my husband has worn khacki shorts or something to that degree.
The food was excellent, and they brough out wine to taste to the tables. I had pasta one time, pizza another time and my husband had chicken if I remember correctly. Wonderful restaurant. And very nicely decorated. Hope this helps.
The food and service is always excellent. Ask for John Coombs to be your server, outstanding!!! Our only disappointment was on our last visit we were seated next to a table of 8 children ranging in age from 8- 17 (guess) who were loud and obnoxious. ( I have 4 kids of my own). Two of the kids left to get takeout from McDonalds, brought it back to eat at PYC. We go every year and this was our only bad experience.
I went a few years ago with my BF and it was by far one of the best meals we had. We both enjoyed it very much. It was , however , very crowded and noisy! No kids leaving to get McD's though!
We had been meaning to try this restaurant for several years. Finally got there in Dec. '02. The food and service were excellent, we will be going back in Nov.
