My daughter started her PhD the first week of September in Amherst Massachusetts.
Getting her there was a whole drama unto itself that deserves a dedicated thread but the bottom line is my DH and I were able to drive her down as she was considered essential travel with her student Visa and we, as her parents were allowed to accompany her.
We have been back for two weeks now and I am thinking about flying back to visit her in either Late October or mid November.
The best option price wise and direct flight wise is with Porter from the Toronto Island airport into Boston.

Now, here is where my question comes into play-would you book to fly Porter for a month or two from now?
I am worried that if we have a fourth wave lockdown it might change things with them (like they shut down again or cut routes) quicker than the bigger American flight options.
Then I would be scrambling at the last minute or maybe have to cancel altogether.
I am just trying to consider every scenario as I am already pretty stressed out about flying right now.
WWYD?

I can totally relate to this - very similar circumstances - my son just started university in Boston, I drove down with him, and want to go visit in late October for family weekend. It's probably more expensive but I'd buy the refundable/changeable tickets with Porter I think. But I hear you, also when flights get cancelled if you are flying out of Pearson on a bigger airlines they have more backup than Porter...so that's a risk too..but Porter is amazing lol...It's a tough call!

Also want to add...I REALLY hope they open our land borders to recreational travel soon...I would much rather be able to drive...and also want to be able to drive to Florida this winter...

I heard rumblings of the CBP moving to accept the same antigen test that the US border patrol uses right now. But that was just speculation in another forum so who knows?
My hubby and I had to drive from UMass Amherst to Connecticut to get the ID NOW NAAT tests for our return so I would be really happy to see them move to at least that if the land border doesn't open.

We booked porter for our Dec cruise out of New Jersey. Our options were limited as we wanted to fly to New Jersey rather than La Guardia (to limit time in an uber) and Toronto Pearson to New Jersey was almost double the price. So we booked porter. Am a bit nervous...and if land borders do open, then we have the option of driving too (our flight is refundable)

I kind of feel like they would not have opened up the routes if they thought they would be just shut back down but after all the Covid stuff that happened with travel over the last year and a half nothing would surprise me now. I just want to make the best informed choice I can.

Yeah I looked everywhere in and around Boston for that test and couldn't find a place, we ended up getting our tests done in Buffalo area and paying a fortune for 2 hour service. Hoping they move towards rapid testing too once borders open (which hopefully is soon!)
