Port Upgrade With A Guaranteed Room?

I am debating booking a guaranteed room and gambling on a port upgrade since there is so much availability. Does anyone know if you are able to upgrade a guaranteed room at port or are you stuck with it?

Based on what I've read in other threads, it seems like you can, pending availability, but you are charged the rate based on the lowest possible guaranteed room that you paid for... e.g., I book VGT and get a 5A... I don't think I would be able to go from 5A to 4A at the going rate, it would be the lowest ranked verandah (is that a 7 I think?).

Correct, they will use the lowest price for the TYPE of room you paid for as the start point to figure how much more you must pay. Not what you got assigned.
