Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

Any runners out there who love POR-riverside? Going for first time in October and wondering what the running path is like. Thanks!

I just wanted to throw in here that if you go to mickeymilespodcast.com and click on "Run the Resorts," they've got running route maps for many of the resorts.

I agree with this. It is always wise to pack what you need for the first 24 hours in your carry-on, just in case the airline misdirects your luggage. That way you should have everything you need right away with you. Let DME either deliver your bags or have them held until the next morning. Why spend more time at the airport if you don't have to? Especially with tired kiddos!

Will they hold them? I never thought of that. We are staying here one night and arriving around 6pm. I almost rather just get the luggage so from them on the AM so we don't have to lug it back in the morning when we switched hotels. Good to know!

When POR had its refurb (last yr?) I know that the double beds were changed to new queen beds.
Were the King beds also refurbed with new mattresses at that time?

I booked POR a couple of days ago when FD was released.

At first only availability was RR but next day Garden View rooms showed up for our dates: 10/30~11/9. We needed AB rooms since we are party of 5. . We were going even without FD but with FD promotion we saved over $2300 (2 adults, 2 Disney adult, and 1 child). I guess some of the saved money could go towards a couple of days at Universal and a few extra souvies.

Now I cannot wait until our vacation!! We've stayed at POR 4 years ago and loved our stay and DS was converted to Disneholic while staying there.

Yes, I believe they were. All the hard and soft fittings were replaced, with the exception of a few specific décor items (such as the themed bedheads and mirror surrounds).

I am feeling better and better about our choice to change over to POR. I really hope that we can get a AB room as I think I like the theming much better with those.

I like POR but the running path (concrete walkways) is not great but okay. To do the loop through POR and the out-and-back to the end of POFQ makes about 1.5 miles; it can start to get boring after doing multiple laps. There is usually enough room to move around folks on the path with a few bottlenecks. There is some shade along the portion through POR.

Yes, H2O brand ~ blushing orange. Shampoo, Conditioner & Bath Soap (bar) have a great vacation!

My boys were fine w/all of it. My hair is very long, thick & curly so I brought my own shampoo/conditioner.

So I just discovered a thread on decorating resort windows and doors. Is this done at POR? What items can you uses to attach things to windows and doors? lastly what are the window measurements?

You are allowed to decorate at values and mods only.

You can use clings on the windows, but no tape. Magnets can be used on the doors, again no tape.

The windows at POR are about 4 foot square.

I have short fine hair and I hated it. Made it rough to comb through. It wasn't the worst stuff I ever used but far from useful for me.


I always bring my own and save the mickey stuff for a friends daughter.

I have long, fine, curly hair and I don't like it. It makes my hair feel dry and tangle easily. I bring my own. My DH didn't mind it but he has short hair and will use any brand of shampoo with no complaints.

The beds are really comfortable here by the way, as I know a few people have asked. We've got two Queen Beds in our room, and they are about the same firmness as our mattress at home (which was listed as Medium/Firm when we bought it, I seem to recall). The pillows are much softer than the ones we had on our last visit (which felt much too firm) and overall I've found myself falling asleep just as soon as my head hits the pillow!

Glad everyone is enjoying the webcam, it's a lovely view over the river from here, and the boats in the distance and the horses & carriages at night are lovely.
