hi

i am trying to decide between coronado springs and port orleans for my stay at disney - most of our wedding guests are depending on me!

they want to stay where we are staying - i visited disney in march and only visited carribbean beach which i wasn't too keen on.

people have told me that coronado is nice but port orleans is better? any advice? also - which part of port orleans do you recommend, riverside or french quarter? i have heard that french is the newer part.

also - do the standard rooms have balconies?

thanks

I have a wonderful friend that lives near WDW and she stayed at Port Orleans Riverside last weekend. Yesterday she gave me a mini report about the resort. Port Orleans Riverside is her 2nd favourite resort, it is quieter then the POFQ. She does also like Coronado Springs but it can be busy with people that are there for conventions. The food court can get very busy.
So out of the three resorts she highly recommends POR, but she said to request a manor room not a Bayou room.
I will ask her to add some more detail to this thread for you, but on her recommendation that is where we are looking at staying for our wedding :thumbsup2

Take a look here for more info:

I stayed in the PO Riverside and it was lovely! The FQ was far busier with loads of kids running around so the riverside is more peacefull if that is what you are after.

As far as i am aware no value or moderate hotel has balconies? Most have an external walkway.

I have stayed at POR and POFQ very recently. I preferred POR, because it was much quieter. It is spread out more which gives it beautiful ambience, but that is also the same reason why people do not like POR, because it is too spread out.

hope this helps

Wow, i've heard the EXACT opposite about the PO resorts...Riverside is huge and spread out with TONS more people where FQ is more compact and much quieter...also the FQ is the first pick up and drop off on the bus routes so you always get a seat and get off a pakced bus first!

that being said, if you are going to have a lot of people you may want to do CSR b/c it is a convention hotel and has a lot of the ammenities that a deluxe has for the price of a moderate...

I'd go to the resorts board, they can give you TONS of tips and advice for your situation!

good luck!!!

I would stay at POR. I have stayed there 3 times and love it. I think it would be much more romantic than POFQ.

We stayed at POR for the first 3 nights with only 2 other family members before the Wedding and we really liked it, then when our 100 guests arrived we all stayed at Coronodo for the rest of the stay. My personal opinion is it depends on what you are looking for and what your guests are like. They are both really nice but very different. The POR is very relaxing, has nature walks and the Coronodo is better if you have a lively bunch. When we stayed at the POR we sat by the pool and relaxed when we stayed at Coronodo we had parties by the big pool area every night. The big pool is in the middle of the complex away from all the rooms and security didn't bother us, we requested all the rooms be in one area and in the back of the resort, every morning we all walked to breakfast and would meet to make plans for the day. Nights were by the pool or the rooms were right near the pool area so some stayed in there rooms did things together. I don't think you can go wrong with either resort it just depends on what you are looking for.
Good Luck

Just to add, i think the reason why the Port Orleans french Quater was much busier when we were there was due to the pool. The pool is much more kid orientated than riverside!

WOW! Im very surprised at was has been written here. We have found POFQ to be quiet whilst POR was MAD!!! We visited in December and hardly saw anyone when we were walking around the POFQ resort and certainly didnt hear a thing when we were in the room. When we walked over to POR it seemed the exact opposite :confused3

I would read peoples comments over at the resorts board to. I know it helped us make our minds up as to where to stay for our wedding. - we chose 4 resorts in the end!

We liked POFQ when we went for our honeymoon. The nice thing about it vs. Riverside is that busses stop at FQ first so you're pretty much guaranteed a seat! Riverside is nice though so I don't think you could go wrong with either of them.

Port Orleans Riverside was beautiful when we were there for our wedding. All of our guests loved it! We walked down to French Quarter a couple of times for breakfast and it was busier and many more kids. I would recommend staying in the Mansions with a view of the river. We stayed in Parterre Place which was only a 2 minute walk from the buses/lobby, the cafeteria and the riverboat and the buses were never packed! I would definitely recommend this resort and my DH (wow, that's nice to type!) and I both said we would never stay anywhere else!

DF and I have tried both several times and we prefer Coronado to POR, due to the ambience. It seems to be more themed and there are less kids there (I think cause Coronado has convention center...and a bar with chips and salsa! :thumbsup2 )
