Port Orleans Gator Attack?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone in the land of Dis has heard about a child falling into the lake in Port Orleans (not sure whether this was French Quarter or Riverside) and a gator attacking? I heard the child was pulled out unharmed but wasn't sure if this was true or not?

Nope, and believe me, if this was a true story, we would know about here, on the DIS, within about 20 mins of its' happening!!! Nothing gets by us.

If it's true, it doesn't surprise me. What people have to realize WDW is in the middle of Florida. In Florida, the way the locals describe it to me, if there's a puddle, there's an alligator in it! Disney trys to control them by removing them, but many times they'll just find their way back "home". They love Disney as much as we do

I can see a child slipping into the edge of a pond having gotten too close playing with the water and a quiet alligator a few feet off turning with a snap to scare them off. I don't think they were too close though - the press has been known to stretch the truth before.

While crossing the bridge at POR last year to go to the food court, a boat with a resort patrol told us that he had just seen a gator. I don't know what he did with it, but they are there! He told us that he checks daily and they are there alot.

Anyway, it definitely is a swamp, and there definitely are gators. In fact I saw one on Western Way last week on my way home. Well not on Western Way, but on one of the lakes there, you know what I mean I have not heard of this specific incident, but thats not to say that its not out of the realm of possibility to happen in the future. Note to self: Keep the kids away from lakes at WDW

Isn't that one of the reasons there is no swimming in any of the lakes. Has anyone seen or heard of any at CBR?

If there is a body of water in FL chances are there is a gator that lives there. Yes there have been gators at CBR.

A BOAT told you?? anywhoo, about the gators...... I'd freak, we stay at POR all the time.......they aint kiddin when they call it Alligator Bayou!!!!

Hello, Gator Fan alert... that would be a quote from Steve Spurrier, referring to "The Swamp", AKA Ben Hill Griffin Stadium!

Anyway... living here in FL, I'd be shocked and amazed if such a thing happened and it wasn't plastered all over evey FL news station.

We have stayed at CSR a few times and we have always seen gators. They are usually about 3 feet long. We asked one of the CM about this and they said the gators are monitored and removed when they get to big.
I am a Florida native and it is true that you need to assume that there is the possibility of gators, even near areas where there is salt water!!! I hate to say this, but you also need to assume the same about Water Moccasins (cottonmouths). We live in the panhandle and have to have a 7 foot female removed from our family pond two years ago. The Game and Wildlife officer told us this is extremely common throughout the entire state.

I saw a gator IN MK about 6 years ago. That really freaked me out, but not even a gator can keep me from the Kingdom!

We saw a gator at CSR last year. We were told they let them stay til there about 4 feet long and then remove them. I wonder where they take them? Has anyone ever seen one removed? Wonder if they do it in the middle of the night so no guests are alarmed.

It was kind of cool. Everytime we'd cross the bridge to El Centro we'd look for the gator. We've seen many gators at other places in Fl. I like them at a distance. Wouldn't want to swim in any lakes or ponds in Fl!!

On one of our trips, can't remember which one at CBR there was a gator in the water ditch on the other side of the road ( across from a bus stop) and there were "gator watchers" employees round the clock keeping an eye on it, I guess they finally moved it or it moved on because one day they just weren't there any more, Unless maybe the gator got them!!!

we were there in '99. People throwing bread to ducks: ducks eating bread: gator eating ducks. THE CIRCLE OF LIFE...

Disney has their own gator wranglers. Two guys came and asked if they could put their bag on our table. My ds and I were the only ones eating at the time and I thought it was odd that they didn't use an empty table. As it turns out, we got an up-close view of a 2 1/2 foot long alligator!

The guys told me that they were full time gator wranglers. That was back in the days when the old water park was open. I forget it's name...it was the one that had a lot of problems with critters in the water.

Anyway, I could see how there could be a gator in the water and how a child could fall in at the same time. I'm not sure that constitutes a gator attack, tho.
