I absolutely love Riverside. I find walking the grounds to be absolutely peaceful and the rooms are beautiful. I love staying in a Royal Guest Room with the fireworks on the headboard. I feel right at home whenever I set foot on the grounds. French Quarter holds absolutely no appeal for me. I don't care for the theme and don't think it is as lovely as Riverside. The small size is nice, sure, but I feel like I'm never far from a bus stop at Riverside and don't mind the multiple stops. And, if there is something I want at French Quarter such as the beignets or the pool (you can use either pool if you are staying at either of the Port Orleans resorts), it's a simple walk there.

We loved POR. For many of the same reasons that @JennaDeeDooDah mentioned above, although we stayed in an Alligator Bayou preferred room. We just loved the resort's quiet rural feel. Walking through the landscaped areas between the different resort buildings is gorgeous. We also find the food court at POR to be the best QS at WDW, and we come visit even when we stay elsewhere. With the preferred room we knew we'd be close to the lobby and main bus stop, but with the 4 stops you can't have a room too far from the bus. You do have to tolerate making the extra stops in a round trip park bus trip, but it only adds a few minutes and worked fine for us. We too also walked over to POFQ and enjoyed the beignets, but liked the more lush spread out feel of POR.

My best friends and I are staying at POR next fall, and we chose the Royal suite for the princess of it all. LOL

pofq i like the small size i like how quite it is and i like the qs it has it is nice to have less then a 10 min walk to anywhere at the resort

Depends on what you are looking for....I prefer POFQ over riverside because of the over all ambiance. Riverside is a busy, fun place for kids to do their thing...fishing, bike riding, swimming etc. but French quarter is a more relaxing place to be..you can take carriage rides, go for a walk, sit on a bench and people watch or just chill by the pool. Since it's just my husband and I we tend to take the quieter road. We have stayed at Riverside when our children were small and they had a BLAST so it depends on what you want. You can't really go wrong with either one so go and HAVE FUN!

French Quarter! We love the intimacy of the resort, and it's absolutely gorgeous (Riverside is too, of course, but it's gigantic). I wasn't crazy about the food court (POR has more options), but since they've redone it, that may have changed. I think that no matter what, POFQ will always be dear to me because it was the first resort we ever stayed at.

French Quarter! I love riverside but french quarter small size is the # 1 reason I prefer it. Having one bus stop is great! Not to mention it has less people so the resort buses after the park closes are never really that bad while POR lines often spills out of the queue. I also love that no matter what building you end up in, your never far from anything unlike Riverside. Both are beautiful!

French Quarter is my second favorite resort & POR my 3rd favorite.

you can go wrong with either.

I've stayed at both, and prefer POFQ. I like the size and the decor better that POR.

Completely agree with this, I don't mind the multiple bus stops at all, I love being able to choose to get off at a stop close to my room if I am just going back there, or being able to choose to get off at the front of the resort if I want food/drinks or need to speak with someone at the desk. I have also never found Riverside to be any less quiet than FQ, some of the most serene times I have had at WDW have been strolling around the grounds of POR.

I prefer the decor and feel of POR, but I prefer the size and convenience of POFQ. It's a toss up for me.

Don't leave me hanging: What's your #1 favorite?!

We prefer French Quarter. We like it because it's a smaller resort and just has a very quaint feel to it. No room is very far away from the pool and food court. Bus service was definitely better to us too, because there is only one bus stop. We also prefer the food court at POFQ over POR.

I like them both, but I find POFQ to be less hectic than POR and I like having only one resort bus stop instead of four. I often request building 7 at POFQ though, so it's easy to walk back and forth between them.

We are huge fans for POR. The resort is beautiful and the walk around the Royal rooms and crossing over on the bridge is just a great atmosphere. The gift shop is one of the best and love taking the fairy boat to Disney Springs. Going back this September.

I'm with you. I have never found Riverside to be hectic or loud. Just peaceful and serene. We love going over there even when we aren't staying there. Our daughter did a pirate cruise out of Riverside this past summer and I loved walking the grounds. We strolled over to French Quarter, as well, and I didn't notice a difference in terms of noise or activity level.

I prefer the theme of POR to FQ (darn jester heads!). Also, POR is usually included in promos and FQ is usually excluded.

However, if you have small children, FQ would be better for the splash pad pool and small size.

We LOVE POR!! We find it peaceful and quiet, but with lots of activities to take part in if you so desire. You have a great food court and a table service restaurant, fishing, surrey bike rentals, a carriage ride, boat to DS, three differently themed areas to choose from (RR, preferred AB, standard (AB or mansions)), a great themed pool as well as 'quiet' pools, a great walk along the river to POFQ and Yee Haa Bob entertainment!

POFQ is a nice small moderate with one bus stop and a food court. The pool is best suited to small children, IMO. It is nice, but we prefer all the options at POR. We do walk over to POFQ for the beignets at least once during a visit. We are not fans of the Mardi gras theme.
