Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

We returned two weeks ago from POFQ, and we loved the refurb!! It is most definitely our new favorite mod. Now, my dilemma is what to do for summer. I'm very disappointed in the AP rates for summer. My original plan was to split between Pop and AKL, but now I'm considering all nine nights at the French Quarter. I'm trying to rationalize the extra $$$ for AKL (which is our absolute FAVORITE resort!!). What to do....

Hi there...I'm wondering about spots to hang one of those over the door shoe organizers? I assume I could put one on each side of the bathroom door? Anywhere else in the room I could hang one? A closet, perhaps?

Also, we have 3 small children and would LOVE to be in a building close-ish to the bus stop. We're only paying for a "standard view" room...what requests should we maybe try to make?

We hang ours on the opposite side of the bathroom door. There is a metal shelf there & you can hang it on that. Not sure if it is the same with the refurb.

The building closest to the bus stops is Bldg. 4 but every bldg is pretty close.

We were in building 6 facing the river and it was a quick walk to the bus stop through building 4. I'd say if you have anything on the left side (facing the main building) which are buildings 4, 6, and 7..maybe 5 too..you should be fine! The resort is so small anyways but with 2 small kids, even the smallest walk for an adult can seem like forever for kids!!
4 is for sure the closest though!

My brother and I had hanging toiletry bags and we hung them on the closet which worked out fine for us! They also have hooks above the little bench area so you might be able to hang one there as well.

We are leaning towards adding a day to the beginning of our June trip - at the POFQ! - so we can go to Universal Studios before our Disney adventures begin. One of my BFF's will be joining us for the day since she will be in town for business. She has a rental car and will come pick us up so we can take advantage of the rental car together. If she is not staying with us at the resort, will she be able to come "on-site" to get us? We've never rented a car or driven on own transportation so I'm not sure how this works with the security guards. We have only taken Disney transportation in our 4 trips.

When she gets to the security gate just have her give them your name and that she is visiting and I can't imagine its going to be a problem at all.

No, not a problem. Anyone can drive on any property and visit, shop, eat.

TIP: When you check in, tell them you have a car. They will give you a parking pass. Then when she comes to get you the 1st time, give her the pass. Then each time she comes to visit, she will have a parking pass and can by pass the guard talk. We do this alot when we have friends staying off site, but they come get us for dinner or something.

We actually had this exact same situation on a recent trip and our family member who was picking us up had no problem with the gate. He just had to say he was picking us up, give our name, and they let him in.

Waaaaaay back in December 2005 (wow, has it been that long), they played Christmas Jazz music all over the resort... it was very cool. Hopefully they still play the Christmas music during the holiday season...
