Port Orleans French Quarter FAQ thread - Refurbished for 2011 - Now CLOSED

We are visiting in May of this year. Will these refurbishments affect the overall look of the resort? I hear it's such a beautiful property and it would be a shame to have construction work ruining the view. Not that I'm complaining. We picked this resort for the atmosphere so I was just curious.

The refurbs will be done by the end of April, so you will just miss all the wonderful work they did.

They are only to the interior of the rooms. I was there not long after they started last November.

First of all, they worked normal construction hours and were done by late afternoon each day.

They were very careful to park construction vehicles at the outermost part of the parking lots. They closed each building at a time to guests. They walked all the demolished materials out in carts and brought all the new materials on carts as well. They cleaned up the site and had the dumpster pulled just about daily when I was there.

You would hardly know what was going on; with the exception of a bunch of cones and signs around each of the buildings as they were renovated.

Being an architect and construction manager by trade, I think they handled it beautifully.

I'll be there May 25-June 1st. I think DIS really needs to come up with a 12 step program for us! I'm being to feel like a disney stalker, checking out the boards everyday :rotfl:

These boards are very addicting!! Maybe we will run into you while we are there. I will be with my DH (who wears a grumpy hat & grumpy t shirts) & my 2 sons who are 22 & 18. I will have my light green mickey head on my bag. Say hi if you see us.

Hi.

I was wondering where the fridge is now in the refurbed rooms? It used to be next to the dresser and now it is where? I couldn't see it in the newer pictures.

Just curious.

Thanks!

FAB photos - thank you!!!!

Getting too excited!! Agreed I have an addiction!! I still have 3 months to go and I'm geeking on these boards every day and reading my guide book!! I have a problem!! :lmao:

Does anyone know if I put the yellow magical express tags on my luggage and have it sent to the resort, without taking the DME bus?

We were going to rent a car our first day at the airport b/c it's cheaper then renting from the Disney car care center, but I don't want to drag our luggage through the airport.

We will be arriving late to the iarport (9:30) and I was wondering how long it might take to get to our hotel. Has anyone taken the ME that late at night? How many stops were made before POFQ? Thanks!!

Good question! I was wondering that too, we are arriving at 10pm.

I've read that a general rule of thumb is that there are 90 minutes from the time you step off the plane to the time you check into your room, and that's been pretty accurate for us. It's hit or miss, though. You could be lucky and get on ME when it's ready to roll, or you could be waiting 20-25 minutes for the bus to go.

Usually, the ME bus will stop at SSR, OKW, POFQ, and POR. I *think* POFQ is usually the 3rd stop, it that could vary too. There may be no one on your bus for SSR and OKW.

There is a sticky at the top of the Transportation board regarding this question.

ME is not meant as a luggage service and SHOULD only be used by those who ride on ME.

I have been at POR on a loop with BC/YC/BW, but we were the first stop.

The rooms facing the parking lot are standard rooms. Book something other than standard and you will get a room facing the interior of the resort.

But not all standard rooms face the parking lots; in fact, in at least 5 or 6visits there we've booked standard every time and have never faced a parking lot...... most have been garden view, once was pool view, and another time it was courtyard view. (And we never make special requests on our reservations, we just take whatever is assigned to us when we arrive.......) In any case you will enjoy the resort no matter where your room is!

Ours (King Corner Room, River View, Bld 6) was INSIDE of the bureau/dresser.

Thanks!

So the bureaus have 3 drawers on the left and on the right is the fridge--doesn't seem to leave much room for clothing (for a mod. hotel). :confused3

With a very tired 14 month old and a 4 year old they may make us the first stop as well!!

Yeah that is what I was thinking. In the past the bureaus had quite a few drawers. We will be 4 adults. I don't think we will have enough room to unpack the suitcases.

Can you tell me about the corner rooms? Are these king rooms or 2 queen rooms? Are there king river view corner rooms? How would you reserve those? Would you reserve a river view or a king room? I just checked on the site and it didn't give an option to choose both?

Thanks,
Maggie

That's what I thought too. Not many drawers, and not very deep. I noticed taht at CSR too before we stayed last month. I packed a bunch of hangers, but I suppose I could have asked mousekeeping for more hangers and hung our clothing in the closet.

I also noticed the dressers at FQ don't have the extra shelf on it that they have at CSR. I put all our snacks under that shelf. I will miss that too.
