Hi all, we are planning on a cruise in August from Port Canaveral. Thought about taking the family (4 of us) to Disney first before the cruise. I have some questions and your feedback is always appreciated!

1. How far is it and should I rent a car or shuttle to Disney world?
2. Is the Space Center near Port Canaveral?
3. Would 3 days be a comfortable amount of time to go to Disney world and maybe the Safari?
4. Any money saving tips? Coupons?
5. Any suggestions as to where to stay that is not too expensive yet close enought to Disney World or is it worth staying in the Disney Themed Hotels like Polynesian or Dolphin (It's been about 14 years ago I last visited Florida)
6. Any other attractions I should consider besides Disney World? Is it too far to drive to Miami for a day?

Thanks Disney Community! :cool1:

1. It's about 60-70 miles from the Port to WDW so you will need a car or shuttle service. if you are taking a Disney cruise, Disney's Magical Express will bring you directly to your resort (if you are staying on Disney property).
2. Space Center is 25 miles away from the Port in Titusville.
3. In my opinion, 3 days is enough time to do 2 parks comfortably. You could do three parks at mach speed but keep in mind, it will be August, 100% humidity and very hot - the heat and humidity can drain your energy. Also there is a 95% of afternoon thunderstorms (which can last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or two!)
4. The end of August is considered value season at WDW, hotel rates will be lower.
5. Staying in the park is a wonderful way to complete your Disney experience. You'll have transportation (Disney runs busses from all of there resort to all of their parks). Disney Value hotels are a great option if you are on a budget!
6. Sea World and Universal Studios are also in Orlando. Miami is a 3.5 hour drive from Orlando.

Well, we were on a cruise back in November so I can give my opinion:

1) It is about 50 miles. We rented a car, Disney bus is about $70/person. You can rent a car one way and the car rental shuttle will take you to the Port.
2) The Space Center is about a 15 minute ride from the Port. You can see it from the ship.
3) Three days is fine, but you will not get to see everything at each park. Also it will be HOT ! Really hot.
4) You can check these boards for all kinds of money saving tips.
5) I think it is worth staying in WDW. They have three levels or resorts, Deluxe, Moderate, & Value. You should be able to find something that meets your budget.
6) Sea World, Universal, Discovery Cove, etc. Miami is way too far.

Good Luck. Have fun.

For the best bang for your buck I would stay in a value resort at Disney. I recommend trying for a AAA discount on a preferred location room, saves on walking to the food court & bus stop. You generally have to call to make that type of reservation, and it can NOT be part of a package.

I've also stayed at deluxe resorts and they are nice but the cost is significantly higher. Another option is renting a "Deluxe Villas" from a DVC member. A Disney resort property with all it's benefits, reasonable prices, larger villas type room. May be a better option for your family. You can also book DVC directly through Disney, but that is VERY expensive.

You'll have a great time whatever you decide. Enjoy!

Is it a Disney cruise you are going on?
Disney has good package deals on their land and Sea vacations. We did one a few years ago and are going again this fall.
The package we did was 3 days in Disney World and a 4 day cruise.
We did the 4 major parks in those 3 days (it was actually 3 1/2 days). The 1/2 day was the same day our cruise started.
We spent one full day each at each of Epcot, DHS, and MK. Then the morning on the half day we spent in AK. In Animal Kingdom, as it was only a morning, we had to choose between the Safari and the show called "Festival Of The Lion King". We did the Festival, along with some rides, character meets then we were off to Port Canaveral around lunch time. This year it will be the Safari. It was a whirlwind trip for sure but we had a BLAST!
