My family and I travel to WDW one to two times a year, and believe it or not we have never stayed at POR. Well, we will be sdtaying there over the Easter holiday(very last minute), and I have no idea which room or which area to request. My favorite resorts are the Polyfor deluxe, and CSR for moderate. My least favs are the CBR and the ASSports, too noisy and crowded. Please help me make a choice. Everyone has always been so helpful in the past. Too bad Tikiman doesn't go to POR. His website is my favorite.

We have stayed at POR twice.Once in 2000 and just this past Feb.
We stayed in the mansions both times. The first time in Magnolia Terrace the whole time .It is closest to the bridge to to the theme pool and this is how you get to the food court/main building(Boatwrights the sit down restaurant,check-in ,the store, and the arcade)The have a spot to go fishing, and a playground for children. There is a quiet pool between Magnolia Terrace and Acadia house. The laundry is at the quiet pool. This gave my kids something to do when I did laundry. On the other side of Magnolia Terrace is a gazebo and fountain. It has a nice atmosphere, and the grounds are beautifull .This past Feb.we started out in Magnolia Terrace and had to move. They wanted to put us in Oak Manor but it was a second floor room.My mom was using a wheelchair and I did not like the room location for this reason. The front desk told me I was closer to the food court from this room but I walked it and it was longer! We ended up in Acadia .The walk was a bit longer to the bridge maybe a minute more. There was a butterfly garden just outside of our room, with benches to sit.I hope you enjoy your stay. When we were there they had staffing issues(thats what I call it anyway)Hopefully that will be better for your stay.I do like the atmosphere and I would stay there again.

It all depends on the architectural style you like.

The mansions are styled after the graceful, southern mansions of the past. There are 4 mansions. They were described nicely above. My only additional comment is that the mansion buildings are huge! Room placement is very important and some sections of the mansion are 3 stories (there are elevators in the 3 story sections). We were in Patierre Place about 3 rooms from the river on the 2nd floor. It was a good placement and about a 5 minute walk to the food court.

The bayous are smaller, more intimate buildings that are grouped in clusters of 5 around quiet pools. The rooms are more rustic in that they are a bit darker in color and the furniture is a more rustic style. The rooms are the same size as the mansion rooms and have the same amenities. The bayou buildings are 2 stories (no elevator) and the vegetation is lush and full. Some may consider it overgrown, but that's the way it is in the bayou. The bayou buildings have 2 big points in my opinion. First, the double rooms have a trundle bed under the first bed. If you are traveling with children, the trundle bed can be a wonderful thing for separating cranky siblings at night and these rooms do sleep 5 (the only moderate rooms that do so). ;) Second, in the first cluster of bayou buildings, Buildings 14, 15 and 18 are the closest to the main Riverside building complex. In fact, some of the rooms in 14 are so close to the food court that you can smell the food cooking!!

One thing to consider during your stay, is to split your stay between the mansion and bayou rooms. That way you can figure out your architectural preference. My building preferences would be Bayou Buildings 14 or 15 and Magnolia Terrace.

If you go to www.wdwinfo.com you can pull up a map of the resort which will help determine exactly what buildings you do not want to be in because of the distance. :D

We have stayed in alligator bayou twice, once in building 14 and once in building 18. They are both close to the main bus stop and the restaurant, main pool and food court. this worked out well for us with 3 kids in tow. Hope this helps!

We stayed in Oak Manor (mansion) in May of 2000. We had a great room location. 1st floor looking out to the beautiful fountain. My husband and sons would wait there every morning for me to get everything ready. Nice to open your door to such a nice view. We had a quiet pool behind our building with a very quiet laundry room. I didn't think the walk to the main building or bus stop was too bad, hard to not enjoy a morning walk with all that great landscaping and friendly people!! Only bad part was waiting for a bus from DD for an hour once. Otherwise stay was perfect!!:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

If you decide to stay in the mansions, I would also suggest Magnolia Terrace. Out of all the mansions, I think it is the most convenient to the main pool and the main building (it is right near the path that leads to Ole Man Isle, where the pool is, and then continues across the bridge over to the main building). There is also a quiet pool right next to the building.

Also, there are multiple bus stops throughout the resort. The bus goes to the main bus stop, out in front of the main building, first, so you may want to catch the bus there at busier times. The bus may be crowded by the time it gets to the other bus stops (there are bus stops near various buildings). We found that using the main bus stop was easier anyway, because we would leave our room in the morning. go the main building to have breakfast either at the food court or at Boatwright's (POR's restaurant), and from there just go out to the main bus stop.

All in all, I think it's a beautiful resort, and we enjoyed our stay there very much.

Just want to remind you that a request is just that-a request, not a guarantee. I wish I'd remembered that when I went to POR once. I'd stayed in the Mansions on the previous 4 trips and requested AB. I was so excited thinking about it-even told the limo driver on my way there how I was really looking forward to trying AB. Well, what a big initial disappointment when I got the Mansions again and was told there was nothing available in AB. BTW, I got Magnolia Terrace and loved it. And on the next trip, I got AB and decided that now that I've tried both, neither is "better"than the other, and in order to save future disappointment, I won't request a section-Mansions or AB-from now on. Just my own experience.

Thanks for all the great advice!! It really does help whne "attempting" to chose a sectin to stay in. The only time that I have been initially disappointed when I didn't receive my room request was at the CR, I got the North wing instead of the Tower. Boy, was I hot!! Anyway, as always in WDW< it all worked out for the best. The North Wing was much quieter, and you could see the foreworks from right outside our room on the lawn. The kids loved it. 14 more days!!!!!!

Had you booked a tower room or a wing room?
Booking a wing room, and then requesting a tower room and not getting it, and being "hot" about it is silly.

Sounds like they gave you the room that you booked.

I'm not flaming you, just trying to put your comments into perspective :D

Thanks for the perspective, but the reason I was so hot was that I had booked a tower room as atreat for the kids. My point was that I thoroughly enjoyed the North Wing Room, but I really appreciate your gracious response.

You are quite welcome.

I hope they made a price adjustment for you as the prices in the tower are significantly higher than the wings (except for suites).

As I stated before, I wasn't flaming you but you left out some details pertinent to the situation. Thank you for the clarification.

I think I would be hot if I booked a tower room and got put into a wing room. I believe they ARE much more expensive than the wing rooms. I'll have to check out another website to get the price differences.

Update: The standard room for CR for peak season 2002 is $299.00. (That's for two queens or a king bed, regular view) The Tower room for CR, peak season 2002 is $420.00. (Again, two queens or a king, regular view)

Like Topper, I sincerely hope they refunded you that extra $121.00 or whatever extra you paid for a Tower room after you were placed in a wing room.

Thank you for your kind response. I had not paid for the room in advance, just the one night deposit required to reserve the room. Boy, did we get off topic about POR. I checked out the different pics on wdwig and I think that Magnolia Bend looks beautiful.
