Hey to all.
I understand that the actual hotels get the room allotments about 3 days prior to your arrival.
I am wondering about calling Port Orleans Riverside with a request for our grand gathering. I already put a request on the files for Magnolia Bend building #90. ....but I was thinking about calling the day before arrival and asking for a ground floor room ....near the patios.. I was thinking if my brothers kids are in bed it would be nice to be near the patio tables and still by the room so he could listen to them/see the room.
I wonder about what number I would call to get the actual hotel front desk and if/when they would see the rooms for the dates.
We don't fly into orlando until 530pm on a Wednesday and so won't be arriving at the hotel till around 7- 730 so I am worried about getting "any" of our requests with a late arrival like that. We have always checked in around 11-1130am and gotten our requests no problem.
Any suggestions .....

The best thing to do is just to have the request on your reservation.

If you call the hotel and talk to someone at the front desk, I don't think they will help you with your room assignment.

i put our building requests for POR on our reservations. but i didn't get any of the buildings i originally wanted. no rooms available in them.

good luck. maybe you'll have better luck than us.

that said...the building we ended up in was nice.

when you call the resorts, you don't actually get that resort. You get a call center with people answering for that resort.

Last 2 times I made requests at POR on my reservation, they were completely ignored and obviously never looked at by anyone. And instead, I got assigned rooms the same area in the same mansion (Parterre Place) in the farthest back corner facing the parking lot. Terrible location. I find that requests are completely useless, they are never ever looked at. You can beg at check-in for a certain area, as that worked twice for me at other resorts. But I never get my requests without a fight and a lot of effort!

Well, hopefully the OP fares better!

According to the information on Deb Wills site, she suggests that you fax in your request 4 days prior to your arrival, her example is:

Figure your 4 days prior to arrival this way:

Thursday - Arrival day/check-in
Wednesday - 1 day prior
Tuesday - 2 days prior
Monday - 3 days prior
Sunday - 4 days prior

The fax number for the POR is 407-934-5777.

What she also states is that the more specific your request the less chance you may have of getting your request. So while you may get the Oak Manor Mansion, you may not get the exact area you are looking for.
I have always been pretty lucky with getting my requests, but I have generally just asked for a specific building and then maybe facing away from a pool etc.

ok we are thinking of requesting a room at POR never done this before so i'm looking for ideas as well... we are checking in on thursday so i should fax them the day of??? I won't be able to since we'll be on the road... i could tuesday before we leave though... wend we are leaving at 5 AM suggestions?

I always used to fax my request in also - but my understanding now is that they use the requests on your reservations the same.

I found during busier times I rarely got my requests - but during slower times I was able to get them.

good Luck

You should always put in your request with CRO when you make your reservation or call once you have an idea of the location you'd like. This way it will be on your confirmation in the WDW system.
Then, if your arrival date is Thursday then you should fax in your request on Sunday if possible.
Since the POR has the mansion section and the alligator bayou section, where you want to request depends on your taste. I had requested Oak Manor and I did get my request. I liked the location, it was close to the quiet pool and not too far from the main pool and the bridge to the foodcourt etc was just a few steps away.
Take a look at the map on the Dis or on Deb Wills site to get an idea of where you'd like to stay and put in your request.
As always a request is just that and not a guarantee, but it certainly can not hurt to ask ahead of time.

Thanks so much for the info... i'll have to get to looking we are a family of 5 so i understand right we will be in the alligator bayou section since we will need the trundle bed... we also are a 'no view' reservation to save that $100 LOL so i need to check maps out and get to calling... or maybe i'll just get what i get... i'm just worried that we'll be a walk from the parking area and with little ones i'd rather not have to take the stroller in the room everynight unless i really need to.

We usually put the request on our reservation and then our agent fax them 2 days before we arrive again with our request. We always get what we request. Infact last year we requested the same room as the year before and got it! Building 39, across from a quiet pool, what a great location!

Just to let you know , Disney does not like faxes anymore. In fact I've heard from a few people that they tell room assignors to not even look at the faxes.Best bet is to have a request noted on the reservation

It is my understanding that they will not accept them at the WL, but my last 3 stays which were all in 2007 once at the CBR and twice at the Allstar Music when I checked in the CMs commented that my fax had been received.

I can tell you that when I stayed at CBR , last time, I had sent a fax, and when I checked in the Cm told me no more faxes.Maybe it depends on the CM?Who knows? My TA just called and had my requests added to my ressie.:goodvibes

We used to have some posters on this board who actually worked as Room Assigners. They said faxes were OK when they only got a couple, but they were getting hundreds a day sometimes. Since they didn't have time to match the faxes up with the reservations or the requests made earlier, they were just throwing them away.
If no one has posted on the internet recently about sending faxes, there are probably less sent and the CMs might be able to deal with them.

The more specific the requests are, the less rooms fit the request, so the less chance that you will get what you want. Room Assigners have posted in the past that they assume whatever you list first is most important to you, so be sure it's first on your list.

I listed 4 different buildings in AB that we would have liked. And second floor preference. But that was it. Not too specific. We didn't didn't get any of those buildings.
