Okay, I know there are several threads out there that probably would answer my questions but please help.

We are a family of 4 myself 31, Dh 33, DD 9, & DD 4 and we are planning on staying at POR. My questions are
1. Which would you prefer AB or the mansions? I think the mansions are beautiful but I've heard people say the AB are whimsical. So which would you prefer for the children?

2. Does both sections have the in room safes?

3. Should I request a non smoking room?

4. What else should I ask for if anything?

Thank you so much for your help. I know that you probably get tired of the same ol same ol but I am very grateful. :)

1. Mansions they beautiful - especially floating down the Sassagoula river at night.
2. yes
3. Definitely if you don't smoke
4. Possibly a water view?

I love POR it is the biggest bang for the buck resort on property IMHO.

Be sure to catch Bob Jackson in the River Roost Lounge if you can.

Have fun! :Pinkbounc

Thanks so much. We did book waterview I'm sure it'll be worth the extra. Thanks again. :wave2:

I have always stayed in AB, but am going to try the Mansions hopefully this time. I would make sure that you have time to check out the great pools too! Roaming the resort is fun, especially for kids!

I always ask for a corner room if available. Having two windows makes the room seem a bit more spacious. I usually ask for a room close to the food court or general store. It's nice to be near the fc when you need a refill for your mug. You'll love POR! :flower:

Disnee Dad Says.......................................We are partial, our first trip was to DIXIE LANDINGS, Magnolia Terrace. We walked over to AB, it's more like Port Orleans style. Nice, but...... at the mansions, there is so much botonical stuff. The trees, expansive lawns, most tranquil. 97 was better than 02, it seemed to not get the care these great mansions should get. But I have heard that they did some refurbishments and added refrigerators to the rooms for free. So we are going for the fourth time to DIXIE LANDINGS in June!

Never give in, never give up, it will always be DIXIE LANDINGS!

1) We have stayed in both sections and prefer the AB. The AB also has the trundle bed, which would be neat for one of the kids.
2) Both sections do have room safes.
3) We always do. However, we were in a non-smoking section of Acadian House in January and some nearby would smoke up a storm every morning. When we would get back from breakfast, our bathroom would reek of smoke. A couple calls to the front desk didn't really do much to alleviate the problem. It only seemed to go on for a couple days towards the end of our stay.
4) All the views are pretty nice so I don't really know if it matters as far as that goes.
5) Whatever you do, DON'T MISS Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson perform in the River Roost Lounge. Your family will really enjoy him! He is usually there Wed-Sun evenings from 8:30-Midnight.

I agree, it will always be DIXIE LANDINGS! :goodvibes What's up with the refrigerators? Are they in MB and AB in all rooms? We have stayed at Magnolia Terrace and Oak Manor in the past. Thinking of requesting AB this time for a change. Hope we like it!

We prefer the mansions ....it's all in the theming and which you prefer though. I've stayed in the AB as well in the past and they're both nice. The AB rooms are much more rustic - the bed frames look like they are made of logs as well as the mirror frames look like they're made with branches. Your kids may like that. We like the more "fancy" feel of the mansions though -- kind of makes us feel like a much less expensive version of the GF :goodvibes We just stayed at POR in Oak Manor over the weekend and it was beautiful! I almost forgot how much we loved this resort before joining DVC. It was so nice to go back. We had a non-smoking room #9251 and it was on the river side of the bldng. (not the parking lot) - we booked standard view. IMO, it's really not worth paying extra to book preferred view by the way, as you don't have a balcony to sit on and can't really see the view very well out the windows - so you really need to go outside to see the view anyway and ....if you end up on the parking lot side of the bldng...A. the landscaping is done so beautifully that even parking lot view is pretty and B. it's a much closer walk to the bus stop and C. if you have a car, it's much more convenient on check in and check out day loading and unloading your lugguage... not as far to trek all your stuff. It's also convenient to the car if you don't plan on taking the bus...which we took the buses and realized the bus stop is less of walk for the rooms on that side of the bldg. But just some thoughts on the room view and which to book ;) We ended up very happy having not spent the extra $$ on the view :)

The requests I would put in for would be for non-smoking (or the opposite if you're a smoker) and if you want to be close to either a pool, the main bldg. or a bus stop though.

HTH's! Have a wonderful trip!! :wave2:

I would stay on the mansion side of the resort, especailly since you have girls. Do request a non-smoking room, I never take chances with that. There are in room safes in every room in the resort. Have a wonderful trip, POR is one of my favorites!

We are staying at POR for the first time in August and I requested Oak Manor. Thanks, for the information.

You're welcome! :)

An FYI for anyone requesting Oak Manor.....if you have a strong preference for smoking or non-smoking this is a smoking optional bldg. So be sure to request one or the other so that you don't end up with whatever they give you but "in Oak Manor" since you put in for that request. Also, we had a non-smoking room and no problems....didn't seem to see any other smoking rooms near ours or smell smoke from anywhere in the vicinity. Thought I'd let y'all know since I've been seeing some posts about people in non-smoking rooms smelling smoke from nearby smoking rooms through vents and things.
