I am considering POR for our stay in March, 2005. It will just be me and DS 14. I see lots and lots of preferences for the Mansion rooms. To me the Aligator Bayou buildings look for interesting as the Mansion rooms look just like any old hotel room I have stayed in before. Why does everyone like Mansion so much? Why do you like or dislike Aligator Bayou?

I love AB. For me, it feels more relaxing, more quaint and quiet. I love the winding shaded pathways. It's super-charming. I think people like the mansions because they are more formal, and not as rustic-looking as AB. Also, the grounds are very very pretty over there:Pinkbounc

I prefer to stay in the mansions for one reason, I hate the beds in AB. They are made out of sticks or logs. Just too rustic for my taste. The outsides are very nice as are the mansions IMO.

I love AB as well. The first trip I took to WDW was my in-laws treat. POR was the cheapest Disney had to offer...and we were staying there. I was a little worried. Once we got there, I fell in love. We toured all of the other resorts, and 6 trips later, I still choose POR. There are things that intrigue me about the other resorts but we keep thinking...why chance it...we are happy there. Last yr my SIL and her family stayed at All Star and I gave my kids the option to stay there and my DS10 said "Dixie Landings is our home at WDW...that was enough for me.

I've stayed at POR 3x. We've been pretty happy in the AB (2x)section, although really I don't see much diff btw that and the mansions (1x), except the landscaping. The food court at Riverside is great. Buy the refillable mugs, it's worth it!

We enjoyed both.....

When we were at mansions, I had my mother with me and it was perfect with her. The rooms are more victorian and feminine feeling, with the pristine buildings, gardens and formal pools. We asked for 2nd floor so we would have a "view" as we always had requested water view. Nice corner rooms, it was "lovely".

When we stayed bayou, I was with my husband. We requested first floor water view and we faced the pool. We (and the kids) love the bogs, croaking frogs, bridges, rustic decor and landscaping, the feel of a front porch, taking a quick swimin the freeform pool just outside our room (although the pool was somewhat hidden by landscaping) and the quaintness.

I think they are equally enjoyable depending on your group. For you and your son I think the bayou would be more fun !
