I had booked CBR for 7 nights in May and did my homework and was all prepared, BUT this cute six year old neighbor girl wants to "tag" along and you know - how can you say no to a child. My dilema - I had to change to POR due to us being a party of 5 now. I know NOTHING about POR. What building to request? What other info do I need to know? Any info about this resort would be MUCH appreciated. THANK YOU.

Theitert- what a generous and thoughtful neighbor you are!!:)
I stayed at POR once and really thought the grounds were gorgeous. I believe the Alligator Bayou section has the trundle beds and the Mansions do not. I stayed in building 16, Bayou section, and there was a quiet pool right outside the room. It was a short walk to the food court, which IMO, is the best on Disney property I've seen. You can rent bikes, take the boat to Downtown Disney, rent fishing equipment, etc. I believe Building 14 is the closest to the food court. Have fun planning and enjoy!!:)

This site has amazing pictures of the resort!

I felt the same way as you. I'm much more familar with the deluxe resorts than the moderates. So, when it came time to book a moderate (to save some $$) I was at a complete loss!

I found great info here. People love the Port Orleans. I was originally booked at CBR, but switched. I was nervous the resort would be too large and DH is used to the convenience of the deluxe resorts. PO-R seems nice and quaint. We were sold on the boat to DD.

You are so sweet to take the little girl. No one took me  I had to wait until my 1 year wedding anniversary!!!! Only my husband loves me enought to give up his vacations to take me to wdw every year!!! (this might be the last trip until we have children since he wants to go on a "real" cruise w/a casino!!! :D

We just got back from CBR Sunday and it is nice, but I would definitely change to French Quarters (If that used to be Dixie Landings?) and get a room with a pullout trundle bed for a 3rd child. I just dont remeber if it is open or not. All moderates are quite equal in our estimation, so why not sleep well?

Just booked our fourth return trip to Port Orleans Riverside this morning!! I feel like I'm going "home". I think the previous poster is a little confused, so I'll try to explain the difference.

There used to be two separate resorts - Dixie Landings and Port Orleans. Dixie Landings had two distinct areas - Alligator Bayou and the Mansions. The Alligator Bayou section is where you'll find the rooms with the trundle bed - which sleeps five. The Manisons do not have the trundle bed.

Port Orleans is about a 15 minute walk from Dixie Landings.

A little over a year ago, the two resorts merged and the name Dixie Landings was dropped. There are still two distinct check-in areas - one at each resort. But now, the areas are called Port Orleans (French Quarter), which is the original Port Orleans, and Port Orleans Riverside, which is the original Dixie Landings.

Riverside still has the two areas - the Bayou and the Mansions.

We've stayed in the bayou three times and I love the secluded feeling there. We stayed in Building 18 on our last trip and it was a perfect location - quiet pool right behind us and short walk to the bus stop, main pool and food court. I'm tempted to try a mansion on this trip, but I'm still pulled to the bayou.

I've included a link to my DIS website, where I've included lots of details, photos, etc. on this resort.

Hope it helps!!

TwinMom7,

Ilove your web site! I am planning on staying at POR in December. Thanks for sharing!

Myself and my DH, DS 8, DD"S 4,5 stayed in Building 24 Alligator Bayou in September. We were in room 2464. A second floor room. We were very far from the food court/main buildings which we were disappointed with at first. And it does make it harder to go for a refill. BUT, we loved this location. We had a quite pool right outside our room (open 24 hours), the laundry room was right there, and around the corner was a bus stop that was NEVER crowded. Our room was small for 5 but adequate. The trundle is very small and only very small kids can sleep on it, but the beds were comfy. The housekeeping was good and the people friendly. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We Love PO-Riverside!!! We stayed in the Mansions on our first trip to WDW with our 14 month old DD. Now she is 7 & we have 2 more little ones & will be returning to the Alligator Byou Section this yr because it is the one moderate where you can sleep 5. We have also stayed at WL & CSR & loved them as well but I have to say that PO-R has the best food court!!! The whole boat to Downtown Disney is also a big plus for us.

According to my information, PO-French Quarter can not accomodate 5.

Good Luck & you really are a generous neighbor!!

You'll enjoy the PO Riverside. Since youhave 5 you will be in the alligator bayou section. We stayed in bldg 15 and it was a good location. I think if you are in bldg. 14 (reserved for physically challenged guests), 15, 16 or 18 you won't be too far from anything. You might want to consider asking for a ground floor room. There are no elevators and with little ones who are tired at night the ground floor is a nice touch. The other thing you might want to consider is asking for a room that doesn't face the parking lot. My fear is that a small one will dart off into the parking lot. If you are facing one of the courtyard sections (same price as parking lot) then that eliminates that possibility until you reach the parking lot. Just a thought.

The food court there is great. They have a wide variety. Even my picky 3 year old found something to eat there. Chicken strips and mac/cheese were his favorites. They also have a TV video running all the time and a large lego table to keep kids occupied while adults eat. There are also entrees that adult enjoy - I liked the taco salad. And, don't miss the bakery. I never did.

They have a playground there, if you have time. We never did. But the one at the POFQ is a little better suited for younger kids. The PORiverside has a main pool on old man island which is nice. There is a bar right there and close by is a fishing hole. The kids can fish there. They give you a pole and worms. They charge by the 1/2 hour. It is neat if they don't get that experience elsewhere.

Keep in mind, at night when you are leaving the parks at closing, sometimes the bus fills up quickly. A lot of people will stand. They tend to have several buses waiting in the "wings" and we typically wait for another bus so we can sit instead of stand. It is easier with young children. If you are in the bayou buildings I mentioned then you will get off at the 2nd bus stop which is nice. The first stop is at the POFQ and then they stop 4 times at PORiverside.

The rooms at Riverside are adequate. You can see pictures on the website. But, the trundle bed is not large. Works well for a smaller child.

If you have any other questions just post them. I'll be glad to answer. We have stayed at POFQ 7 or 8 times and only once at Riverside. But you can't fit 5 in a room at FQ. Keep in mind that you can walk down and use the pool at FQ. The theming is really very nice. Kids tend to enjoy it tremendously. Plus the slide is smaller and not as curvy or fast. Better for young kids.

You could still stay at PO-R with a party of 5... just tell them that you are increasing the amount of people staying in your room, and they will place you in Alligator Bayou. We LOVE Alligator Bayou!!! The trundle bed will cost an extra $15 per day, but, it will save you the hastle and cost of switching to a more expensive resort at this late time. Request Alligator Bayou building 14...it is THE BEST!!!

Have a great time, and what a generous person you are!!!
