Poppy Ran Me Over With His Scooter - A PHM Trip Report UPDATE!! 7/23 Pg. 21

Oh man, I wish I had your make-up skills! I usually only wear eyeliner and mascara and its all smuged by lunch time lol

I always hate seeing judgy people when it comes to the scooters. I wish I could remind them that 9 times out of 10 the people in those scooters whole heartedly wish they could stand in the regular line and walk around the park on their own. The truth is unless its an obviously visible injury, we don't know why these people need the scooters, and we shouldnt be so quick to judge. I'm glad you met some kind people to restore your faith in humanity :)

And our view. We didn't have savannah view this time, because we had to book three studios, so standard views were the way to go for us.

Ooooooh! You have me all kinds of excited to stay at AKL this November. Our first time trying deluxe/DVC. We're renting points at a studio to see if we like it. We'll be doing standard view.

The one complaint that I have regarding DVC studios is the fact that everything is a bed and a pull out couch (other than at Old Key West). And me typically being the third person in the room when we travel, I end up sleeping on the pullout. They are terrible! Just really uncomfortable to sleep on.

Yeah, I wondered if they were comfortable. For anyone over probably 12 I can't imagine that being the best place to rest after a long day at the parks!

I had to sit down and create my Disney inspired makeup look for the day. Followers on IG like to see those, so I try to put thought into them. I also took a picture of my makeup brushes.

OOH! I need to find you and follow you. Your SSE makeup looks so good.

I knew that on the outside Pop looks fine, but that he had to be in the scooter the majority of the time. I didn't want people judging him.

I admit, I used to slightly judge people, too. But I always think to myself, you never know their situation. They could be a veteran, someone who had surgery, someone with cancer, or even someone with a bad knee. You never know! Although last fall we encountered a couple that had been drinking and scootering. Beers in hand, shouting for people to get out of their way.. not sure if that's proper scooter etiquette, lol.

NOOO. Not guest services! We had to go there a few weeks ago and it took us like 45 minutes by the time we got through the line, talked to the GS people, and were free to go into the park. :crazy2:

That pic of Pop is awesome!! I would totally feel the same way about being in Disney a day early!

Loved that makeup look!

Love all the pictures from the hotel. A new camera is always fun to play with!

Aww that was sweet of those people to offer to help with Pop's scooter!

Pebkac- too funny!

Blue Mickey?? Ugh hope it didn't take too long to resolve!

Nice pics with your new camera!

I think I said the exact same thing about your makeup and the PHM. :rotfl2:

If I ever need a scooter I can guarantee you that the driving and parking will NOT go well.

OMG - that IT phrase. I already forget it, but it is too funny! And, sadly, it refers to me. Denny would love that. :rotfl: Anytime I can't troubleshoot my computer he sarcastically says "google it". :faint:

Nice that your parents were able to arrive early. Good for them!

Waking up in Disney - especially that first morning when you have your entire trip ahead of you - is a great feeling.

Interesting that in the DVD studios they do a pullout couch vs. the fold down type beds they have in the Contemporary or the POR Bayou rooms. Guess those are only single beds so that is why, but they are link normal beds so pretty comfortable. Heck, they could do a murphy bed type thing like at the AoA suites.

Can definitely understand where you are coming from as far as how people might look at your dad in the scooter - especially in a scenario like the one you had where there was the issue with the bus lift and it was delaying things. Glad to hear that right off the bat people were nice about it and put your fears at rest a bit. I'd like to think that as long as you are conscious of the impact it could have on others and take your time etc. - vs. using the scooter as a battering ram to get through crowds and shouting out things like "move people I get to go to the front of the line!" most people would be polite about things

Sounds like a really nice family you met on the bus - and a nice way to start of the day with a complement like that :thumbsup2

Oh, no - blue Mickey of death! Hope it was a quick fix and guess it could have happened at a worse time (if you were trying to make an ADR time or something)

Wow, you were dared into it, that's kind of awesome!

I totally hear you, I'm not good at it myself, but girl, I've seen your times, you are leaps and bounds ahead of me!

Aww, thank you so much. It's been a tough road, and there are many bumps along the way. But it's just that. A journey.

I'm glad that he listened to his body and used the scooter too. He definitely enjoyed himself more than he would have if he had tried to just walk the whole time.

Our times may be different, but we both cross that finish line the same!!! I'm excited to hear you're doing the half in January - I hope to finally meet you then! :yay:

I had to sit down and create my Disney inspired makeup look for the day. Followers on IG like to see those, so I try to put thought into them. I also took a picture of my makeup brushes.

I have a problem. And I will use almost every single one of those to apply my makeup. Contrary to what you may be thinking, it doesn't take me an hour and a half to do my makeup. Generally takes me about 20 minutes, up to 30 minutes if I do more intricate eyeliner.

My makeup today was inspired by Spaceship Earth.

I tried to get a little more artsy. See, I bought a new camera recently. I'm not a photographer by any means, but I wanted to have clearer pictures. But I didn't want the hassle of a DSLR. So I purchased a Sony a5000 with an additional lens for a really nice price. You can adjust like a DSLR too, so that's a nice feature. And it's MUCH smaller than most DSLR's, which is nice.

Photographic evidence of a picture NOT taken with my iPhone, which is what I've had on most of my other TR's.

And Mom got the blue Mickey of death. And was told she had to go to Guest Services outside?!

What the heck?
UGH your makeup just destroys my world (in a good way):worship: Now that I've stepped up my maekups game (read I've gone from 1 eye shadow to 6) I need to step up my brush game!!! Also I just got a "pro" camera too and lemme tell those things make a WORLD of difference. I was planning on doing a neverending TR before but now I'm totes going to make the time to do it so I can put all my photos to use besides just for my own entertainment. Lastly I HATE the blue Mickey I always seem to get it when the BF never does. One time the guy told me to use the other finger even though I said I used the right one o_O10 mins later and using my "good" finger again it finally worked!

Another great update as usual

Loving your first day so far! That resort looks gorgeous, it is on my short list of places to stay!

I am the kind of person that LOVES talking to other people around me, whether it be on elevators, busses, whatever. And especially at Disney. It just warms my little heart that people are still open to conversation and can be so understanding. I wish there were WAY more of that!!

Blue Mickey of Death! Simultaneously saying "Ha!" and "Oh no!"

I love all of the hotel pictures! The new camera seems to be a great purchase! (And a good thing for me to read, too - I'm in the market for a new camera that will take better pictures than my current one but still fit in my pocket, and this Sony a5000 looks like a good candidate for that ...)

The Spaceship Earth makeup look is great ... but that's a lot of makeup brushes for one person.

I think there definitely are judgy people out there (I've also been one of them sometimes), but the vast majority of people are not judgy (or at least not in a way that the person being judged can tell). There are a lot of really considerate and helpful people out there, and I'm glad you encountered some of them on your first morning with scooter!

Pebkac ... I love that term. I deal with that a lot ... people.

The blue Mickey ... I had that once. Lots of fun. Although in my case they just called over someone with an iPad ... I wonder why she had to go to guest services outside? I guess I'll find out in the next update ...

Long time lurker, first time commenting on one of your TRs. I gotta say your TRs are my absolute favorite! They hold my Disney obsession at bay until my next trip for my honeymoon in May :-)

yep I got the Blue Mickey. I did have a cast member come with an Ipad but he couldn't help..... I will let Danielle do the explaining about that one. It was really nice of everyone to be so patient with all the bus problems. I know for myself I will not judge when I see people in scooters. You never know what the problem is for sure.

I've always wondered why more of the DVC studios don't have 2 queen beds. It's prevented me from renting points on several occassions because I don't want to be the person banishing their loved one (ie: mother) to a pull out sofa.

Your new camera takes really nice pictures. The lobby looks so crisp. I just love the AKL lobby...

People can be ignorant at times, but I'm glad those kind of folks weren't at the Epcot bus stop. Everybody's got a story, and if peope had half a brain they'd consider that most people don't willingly want to be confined to a scooter. It's not like they set out wanting to take a Disney trip that involved constantly avoiding running into people or things, having to go as slow as the mob in front of you, and having to potentially wait for a second bus to come.

Your Spaceship Earth makeup is really cute! I love the theme choice too, very creative!

Snow storms this year??? I'm sure it was a false alarm. But yup, Popadon off to a great start.. Pink MB and all!!!

Just one time I want to stay in a room with a couch. I don't even care if I use the couch... I just want the option. Apparently not for sleeping though.

I love picture taking too, but since the only time I seem to actually pull out the camera is in Disney, kinda hard to justify something pricey. Clearly your purchase was a good one as your photos are wonderfully detailed.

I totally understand the feeling when travelling with a scooter. I think all of us have had encounters but it's a really different perspective when it's you or your group. That is so nice to have people like that wanting to help right out of the gate. :goodvibes

Oh lord, whenever I think of scooter drivers, I think of the Mime at Seawworld. He likes to imply that some may be indulging and driving. Hysterical. :drinking1:car:

Aww yay!!! So many people fail to realize the awesomeness of talking to people on Disney buses. This is one of the unheralded special treasures I think.

Awesome eye makeup!

I love talking to random people at WDW...it's like they're not really strangers, since we have a common WDW bond.

I always love your "Disney makeup" looks. :worship:

What beautiful pictures of the Kidani Village lobby!

I'm glad you didn't run into issues with the scooter and reactions from others - I think most people tend to be understanding. :goodvibes Those that aren't - to heck with 'em!

Oh, dear, the infamous blue Mickey...:sad2:

Great pictures with your new camera!:thumbsup2

I agree with you on the people being so judgy. I have a hidden "special need". My tailbone was fractured twice and leaves me with lower back pain and arthritis frequently. There are times where I'm unable to stand or even walk for long periods of time. And we all know how much walking and standing we can easily do at WDW. After renting a wheelchair to help me navigate through the park, I too got those judgy stares. A few times I just told the person staring/judging me that I'm fine on the outside, it's the inside that has had a twice fractured tailbone that causes lower back pain and has arthritis that settled in and easily flares up. But, hey, I'd LOVE to trade places with you and be able to stand and walk without being in pain. ;)Totally shot them down. So nice to see that there are still some really nice, compassionate people wanting to help your Pop out with his scooter!!! :thumbsup2

Oh NO!! The dreaded Blue Mickey.

I've read a couple of your trip reports and don't think I have ever commented! But I did want to pop in and let you know how much I enjoy them! Your family seem like incredibly sweet and fun people. Also, your makeup looks are AMAZING! I'm a bit makeup obsessed, and the looks your do are so intricate and lovely.

Congrats on the weight loss and the half marathon! I am planning on registering in September for the next one! Can't wait to be a part of your experience!

(Do you think I used enough exclamation points? sheesh!)

The one complaint that I have regarding DVC studios is the fact that everything is a bed and a pull out couch (other than at Old Key West). And me typically being the third person in the room when we travel, I end up sleeping on the pullout. They are terrible! Just really uncomfortable to sleep on. Now, obviously things could be worse.
That is why I couldn't stay in a studio. Have you thought about bringing an inflatable twin bed? We have a couple of them for when family visits and they seem really nice.

What I was concerned with were judgy people. And believe me, I've been one of them in the past. The ones that look at someone in a scooter and you think they're in it for various reasons.
I work in downtown Chicago and it is really tempting to judge the people who stand on an escalator instead of walk or take the elevator to go up one floor. But when I hurt my knee and could hardly bend it, I became a person who had to stand on the escalator instead of walk, and take the elevator to go up one floor. But that lady who parks in the handicap parking space at my commuter parking lot, she is a different matter.

A common IT term that my brother uses anytime someone says that something with their computer was wrong.

"Well IT man, what was wrong with his computer."

"Pebkac".

"Pebkac?"

"Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair".
This is great! I'm in charge of IT at work which basically means that I know when to call the IT people and I know when I can fix it myself. And in our small office of ten people, there is always one person who is a pebkac. And every problem they have is ALWAYS the computer's fault, the server's fault, or a problem with the software even though everyone else has no problem at all. :upsidedow

We headed into the park. I headed right in, Pop headed in after me.

And Mom got the blue Mickey of death. And was told she had to go to Guest Services outside?!

What the heck?
What was going on in February? :confused3 We had a problem with our tickets, too. DH's annual pass didn't work even though it had worked fine the prior month. The tickets that I purchased for our son and grandsons didn't work, either and we had to go to guest relations. At least we got a fp that was good for any ride we wanted to go on. But what a pain. Your trip report is the second one I have read with ticket problems during this time period.

yep I got the Blue Mickey. I did have a cast member come with an Ipad but he couldn't help..... I will let Danielle do the explaining about that one.
I was hoping that the guy with the iPad could help us, too. I didn't want to go in that long guest relations line.

Love, love, love your makeup. You've clearly got some skill and omg those brushes. Who knew you needed something more than the 1 inch double sided fancy applicator that comes with my eye shadow ; )

Let me know where to sign up for pops scooter course. never to early to learn to scoot from the master ; )
