Hi, All!
What a week!
First of all, I came home from WDW with a cold--I always do. However, I haven't been able to get rid of it, and now it's turned into bronchitis

, but I think I'll survive.
I thought everything was going along as usual here in the office, and it was until Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon I found out that I would be getting a very big promotion! Around here, real promotions are very hard to come by. I've had "lateral promotions" which mean lots more work, more hours, more responsibility and no more money. This time, there's money involved! Of course, there's more work, more hours and more responsibility, too, but there's also another five days of vacation each year (I've been here so long that I will now have
25 days of vacation every year) and five more sick days! The down side of all of this is that I had to be ready to assume my new responsibilities on Wednesday morning. I've been doing at least part of this job for many years now, but I've never had the full responsibility. I will be responsible for the economic development functions of this office, which will include advising people how to stay in business here in town, finding locations for new businesses, organizing and running business meetings, etc., as well as for marketing our special events. I get to do lots of graphic design work, which I love, as well as all the other stuff. Of course, this isn't a job change, it's a "job addition". I still have responsibility for all the stuff I was doing.
So now, I'm sick enough that I should have stayed home today, but I have so much work to do that I had to come in anyway.
OK, looking back on all the stuff I didn't have time to answer--my son is almost 32. I don't take him to the ladies' room anymore, his wife wouldn't like it very much

. I do make my granddaughter come with me, though, and I never let her out of my sight anywhere!
I like rice any way, any time, any kind!
High school reunions--my 40th will be in two years. I haven't gone to any of them, ever. In fact, since I graduated, I've only ever seen three people from the school (I moved away). The first time, I thought I was hallucinating. I woke up in the recovery room after major surgery and saw the girl who had been my lab partner in French lab standing over me. We didn't get along very well in school, so I thought this was some drug-induced nightmare! It wasn't--she had just been promoted to head nurse on the surgical unit in the city where the hospital was located.
Several years later, another woman (it was an all girls school) became the head of the state's Department of Community Affairs, which is an agency I work with a lot.
Then, just this time last year, my son asked me to help him with some research for a Sci-Fi website/game that he runs. He wanted me to look up some information on a guy who had written a book that he was using for research. To make a long story short, the "guy" is a girl (she writes under a pseudonym), she was my best friend for all the years of grammar and high school, and when I moved away we lost touch. It turns out she lives in the next town! We've seen each other many times since then.
Poly/Pop? The Poly doesn't appeal to me as a place to stay. I like wandering around there, but have no desire to stay there!
And as for Disney trips--Jim wants to go if there's free dining. He doesn't care when it is, he just likes to eat and free food is always good! He made great use of the free dining last year! He also wants to go during the Food and Wine Festival (same thing--he loves to eat) and we're already committed to late Nov./early Dec. with the kids. So, we may actually do three trips in the fall! I really think I'd rather skip the free dining, save that money and do a longer trip in October and then another longer trip with the kids. I'm not such a big eater, and I just ate way too much with the free dining, although I enjoyed every meal I ate! And I'm not going to turn down the opportunity to head to WDW! I just can't go before Aug. 18, on Labor Day weekend, or the weekend of 9/8 because of commitments with this new job. I'm really trying to convince myself that I'd rather take a
DCL cruise for one of those trips, even just for three days. I'll keep you all posted! Of course, any WDW stays will be at Pop.
Have a good day everyone. I have to get a whole bunch of stuff done today, since we're closed tomorrow! I'll check back in later if I can.
