Am I the only person who would like to see popcorn:: removed from available smilies? I normally couldn't care less about that type of thing, but this emoticon has been widely abused since it's inception. There's way too many posts that include this particular smilie & nothing else. It's almost always used in a confrontational/ troublemaking way. I feel the board isn't enhanced by that type post in any way. If anything, it's an easy way for some to clutter the boards.

I think it's a great smilie.. I think sometimes it works the other way too.. People see that and realize that maybe it's not the kind of thread they want to respond too.. Not that it will ever stop me..

But I am curious to see what others say soooooo...

popcorn::

I think it's really cute too. It's too bad that it's most frequently used in a troublemaking/ or enabling way. I just don't think the board needs people encouraging arguments/ debates. That's just me though.

I love that smilie but how would people use it in a bad way?

Saying things like:

This should be interesting. popcorn::
I can't wait to see how this turns out. popcorn::

Then there's those post on the highly debated topics that say nothing more than, "I'm bringing popcorn::. Who wants to provide drinks, while we watch the show?"

Or even worse, they bump a thread with nothing but.... popcorn::

IMHO, this type post serves no purpose other than as an instigator to those looking to stir up trouble. When this happens on a thread originated by a new member asking what they thought was a simple question, I really feel sorry for them.

I've never used it, but I don't see any point in removing it. People will still argue and other people will still enjoy reading the drama. Old threads will still be bumped for no other prupose than to prolong the drama. Removing the icon won't change any of that. I guess I just don't understand why we need to regulate everything to death.

Is this a real thread??? I'm so confused :confused3 It's not like it's giving the finger or something.

Oh well, my bad. Obviously, I'm the only one that thinks it shows immaturity & doesn't serve a positive purpose on the boards. This thread pretty much reinforces my opinion on the subject. I do think it's a cute smilie, but wish it was used in a more constructive manner.

Um, you started the thread.:rolleyes1

Could someone in the know please enlighten those of us who are newbies who have no idea what the popcorn thread is all about because there has to be more to this than anyone is divulging. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I see you're using icons, so I'll just say that the popcorn:: smilie is used by many people when they are reading a thread that they believe will degenerate into a verbal fight between posters of different opinions. Someone will post on a thread with just that smilie and nothing else. It is also used sometimes when a controversial thread seems to have died and has had no new posts in some time. They do this so that the thread will be "bumped" up to the first page of listed threads in a forum and hopefully will begin getting new posts by someone who might not have seen it the first time around, or even the second or the third time around. That is usually how you will find some threads that are several months old or older on the first page of the listed threads in a particular forum.

Any clearer? Cause now I'm a little confused!

Oh, yes. I've seen that a few times. Its annoying when they use it to seem entertained with an argument.
