Pop vs all star movies

This fall we are staying in a value resort for the first time, we've stayed at the BWI and CSR during our previous stays, however this time we need to save some money.

We currently have the ASMo booked. We thought it'd be fun with all the larger than life movie characters. My wife and I don't really care for the theming at pop, yet all the positive reviews of pop are making us consider this hotel.

Is there really such a big difference between all star movies and pop century? Or is it just a loyal following of hotel guests? We love the CSR and are always raving about it, yet there are plenty who don't care for it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

It is all just a matter of personal taste.:)

One thing that really differentiates POP from the All-Stars is that it sits on a lake which makes it really scenic.:)

Also Art of Animation is right across a bridge from POP and it has a lot of larger than life movie characters to look at.:)

But,if you don't care for the theme of POP,my advice would be to stick with Movies.:)

I guess saying we don't care for the theming would be a strong way to put it... For some reason and I know this might sound picky, the disco theme isn't our favorite and that looks like its around the pool area. But the pool itself looks awesome.

We do like the other large character type pieces.

There are 2 other Pools you may like-the Bowling Pin Pool and the Computer Pool.:)

I like the Bowling Pin Pool and always request the 1950s.:)

Pop is a newer resort but ASMo had a fairly recent refurbishment. The rooms are identical in size and the resorts will have the same amenities just different theming. The food courts are basically the same with maybe a few different specialty items...it's been awhile, but at the time of our stay at Pop there was frozen cokes and Twinkie tiramisu.
The All-Star resorts can share a bus while Pop does not. I will tell you that in all of our stays at ASMo and ASMu, we have only shared a bus once and that was in the middle of the day. At park opening and closing, all of the All-Star resorts will have their own buses. Even when sharing the bus, it really didn't add that much time to the trip...for us, it wasn't a big deal.
I do agree that Pop is more scenic due to the lake, but we had a blast walking through ASMo taking pictures with all the larger than life Disney icons. Pop is in close proximity to AoA...so if you want to take a peek over there then that would be a factor.
We personally did not love Pop...ASMu is our favorite value with ASMo being a close second. Pop felt more chaotic, more crowded and the lines were longer everywhere-check in, buses, food court etc. We had quite a haul from the parking lot to our room which made loading and unloading a chore. It wasn't awful...it just wouldn't be our choice to stay there again.

I agree! Another thing thats unique about Pop is that it doesnt share buses with other resorts! :thumbsup2 ASMo would be the last pickup/drop off. Also, a bonus to pop is the bridge connecting to AoA. You can walk over and take a look.

I've stayed at both and love both, but for the reasons above i would choose Pop.

I've stayed at both. I like both if I had to pick one it would probably be the pop. It's newer and I like the theming of all the different eras. But to me there's nothing wrong with ASM I've stayed there and liked it just as much. All of the values have that loud theming with colors and character and I love that we tend to stay at a value a lot. Either one you pick in my opinion is a good choice main thing is have fun on your trip.

I prefer the All Star Resorts to PopC. I like the set up of the main building better and we've had great bus service at all of them, so PopC doesn't get a better rating for it either.

(Stays: ASMu three times, ASMo twice, ASSp once, and PopC three times)

Just curious, why do you prefer the all stars over pop? Thanks.

:wizard: We've stay at All Star Movies twice and really liked it...we thought the way it is themed is great and really liked the food court. Never stayed at the Pop but just don't care for the theming....I think you'll love ASMo!

Thanks for sharing! I've been thinking about staying at one of the all stars, instead of pop or AoA to save even more money!

To me the benefit of POP is not sharing busses. It's a huge time and hassle saver. Plus we're the kind of family that spends 90% of our time in the park - which is why we do a value resort anyway. There's nothing nicer than at the end of the night though than not having to stop at 2 other hotels before you get back to yours. So for me, the convenience is a sanity saver. Plus you can walk over the bridge to eat at AoA too if you want.

One of my favorite All-Stars perks is the 24hr McDonald's right outside the entrance - it's handy for a snack after late park nights since the food court closes at midnight or a cheap breakfast on the way to the parks in the am.

I have stayed at both. I like ASMo better. We stayed in the non preferred Herbie section twice and the walk isn't bad at all. The pools are nice. I like the food court. The theming is great. The size of the resort is manageable.

I like POP too. However, it's busier. I prefer the lobby there. It's probably nice to be able to walk over to AoA (we stayed there last August and loved it!).

You can't go wrong with either...but if you already booked movies, I'd be inclined to keep the ressie.

Is the bus ride far from the all stars to MK? Looks like it's even further than akl

We have stayed at ASMo twice and loved it. Staying at Pop next week, just because we wanted to try a new place. Will report back after our trip.
