Looking at a possible June vacation (pulling the kids out of school early!) Is it too hot in Florida to camp in a pop up in late June? Another option is renting an RV through Greenberg RV Rental?!?

Have camped many times at the Fort in June (but not in a pop up).

I can tell you one thing though - 'it is hot' ;)

Also, people do camp without air, but 'we' would be miserable! Don't know where you are from, but I'm in the south and it would not be fun to try to sleep in the sticky heat - it's not 'dry' heat, it's humid! :)

If you don't have AC, then renting would be a good option.

Happy Camping! :goodvibes

I camped in my popup in July and had no problems with my AC keeping us chilly at night. If you don't have an AC, then I probably wouldn't do it. But that's me.

I agree with this advice. You didn't specify if your popup had AC. You will need a haven during your vacation that is someplace to relax and unwind. Late June is wet (rains nearly every day in the pm) and the direct sun will burn and it's hot. When it rains it be very humid until the rain evaporates after a few hours.

If you have AC, bring your popup. If you don't, do the rental. You'll be glad you did.

June is generally better than July or August. The big humidity hasn't kicked in quite as bad. I would still recommend A/C, but a popup should do fine. If you are from an area that gets hot in the summer, the nights get comfortable enough that you might do OK with no A/C. (by comfortable I mean mid 70s to low 80s) If the humidity kicks up or you live someplace where it gets into the 60s (or 70s) every summer night, you'll want the A/C.

Daytime heat can make a popup hot even with A/C. We are typically at a park during the day so the heat in the trailer doesn't matter.

We did June and July about 6 times in a pop up. Turn the AC wide open when you set up and it will be fine. We did use bunk end covers to help. You can use those silver emergency blankets and cloths pins to attach them. Here is a link to give you an idela of what I am talking about. http://www.popupgizmos.com/
They work great but for one time use the $2 blankets.

Pacing is key during the summer. Early entry and evening hours help a lot. Swim and relax in the middle. We have done the air conditioned popup several times. The bunk end covers also help greatly. Good luck.

If my choice is a pop up or not going to the Fort I would go with the pop up. You have air, shade, and as said pace yourself. Can't go wrong.

I see you are not from the south! ;) Trust me, being from the deep south, it is 'just' as hot and humid in late June as July and August IMO. The humidity has definitely 'kicked' in. :)

Any pop up with AC would do fine anywhere, but the OP did not mention having it.

:) I'm from St Louis. We get the heat and humidity. Thankfully not for as long as you. We have had several Katrina refugees near us that said July/August in St Louis was worse than N.O., it just didn't last as long. Many times when we are at WDW in the summer, it has been hotter in StL.

As for June not being quite as bad, I was speaking from my experience at the fort. We typically go in June/July/August and I've found June bearable and July and August HOT!

Maybe it was just the weeks we were there.

We were there in August 2013 and rented an air-conditioned pop up from fortcamperrental.com and had a great time. There were more thunderstorms then than there would have been in June, though.

Yes, you are right! The weather does vary somewhat, also some upper south/mid western areas can get just as/more so hot temporarily than the deep south sometimes. We've experienced that in DC as well as NE AR.

We've also been to WDW in each of the summer months, but we haven't noticed much difference in late June (when OP was going) to the other summer months, except a variance of a few degrees.

But, no matter, if you can have AC at night to sleep, it can be bearable, right?:goodvibes
