Pop Up blockers & spyware

All of the sudden I am being ambused with pop ups and programs are being installed on my computer without me doing anything. I have google popup blocker and its turned on, but doesn't seem to be working.

Is there a blocker that works? Help it's messing up my computer.

A lot of the popups you're probably getting are being caused by Spyware. There's a simple solution that will get rid of a lot of your spyware issues. Go to http://www.security.kolla.de , and download Spybot S&D. Once you install it, be sure to run the update first, or you'll end up missing some spyware.

Spybot is not a perfect solution. At work, we use a combination of Spybot, AdAware, and CWShredder, and between the 3, they tend to pick up just about everything.

Just be careful what you delete!! I deleted what came up with adware(it all looked like garbage) and ended up having to system restore my computer since I couldn't access the internet. The cable guy said it happens all the time!! I'll live with the pop ups!!

I use Ad-aware, spybot, google. Just added, for a charge, the 'plus' version of Ad-aware, hoping to be proactive, as with my anti-virus, rather than reactive.

Thanks everyone, I downloaded the programs and ran them. I was amazed at the stuff they found that I didn't see anywhere on my computer.

Things seem to be better now.

Hey Barb! If you're still there...have you restarted your computer?

There're a whole new host of very persistent browser hijackers out there that some of us have been having fun with on this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=539888

Spybot, Ad-Aware etc. temporarily "fix" the problem until you restart your computer and your IE...then the hijacker can relaunch a whole coterie of spyware back onto your machine...(Spybot and Ad-ware have not yet updated to keep up with this new style of attack)...

...just curious to see if you're in the same boat with some of us, misery loves company. (Don't worry there seems to be a fix and Syracuse Wolverine has been very helpful!)

Yeah I rebooted and now I have a new thingy popping up on the bottom grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I've had it with this spy crap and messing with my computer.
