We are going to Disney in September and staying at Pop Century. Would like your thoughts on what buildings are best for those with children (8 mos, 7 & 9). What are the differences between the standard rooms and the preferred rooms. Saw that the resort backs onto a lake. What's it like?

Hi GrannyEv
We were there January 2004, when it just opened. Very clean and fresh. We stayed in the 50's, not my particular era but we found it to be the best location. Very close to the parking lot and food court and the bowling pin pool is right in front of the buildings. The major 'flower' pool is very close too. The 60's is the preferred but we thought for the extra $10 or $12 per night, the 50's was a much better choice. The parking lot is a bit of a walk from the 60's.

We walked around the resort and found that although they have their own pool, the 80's and 90's buildings were too far away from everything. But I'm sure that may suit some people.

Our room faced the pool, so we didn't have a view of the lake. There is a nice walkway around the lake to go for a quiet stroll. Personally, I found that although the other side (where they are building part II of the Pop Century) was not an eyesore, it was kind of depressing looking at a partially finished building. Mind you, I don't know what stage it is at now, so it could be near done. :confused3

Anyway, we really liked the resort and are probably going to stay there next January as well.

Any other questions, ask away.

A group of us stayed in the 60's and some others stayed in the 50's..both were great locations, close to the pools, pool bark, food court ect!

We stayed in the 50's and found it pretty quiet. According to our TA, the 50's was the only section that offered king sized beds at the time. The pool was nice and not that busy in the evenings (shaped like a bowling pin).
If you are concerned about kids, the 60's has a kiddie pool and a little brighter colour scheme.

I've stayed in both the 50's and 70's buildings and found them to be excellent locations. The Goofy splash pad is near the 70's, on the way to Classic Hall, and the little kids really seemed to be having a great time there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like you all have your favourites. I think the whole resort looks really neat and I'm sure my grandkids will really enjoy it (us adults will too!!LOL)

Good point about the splash pool, TimNDansMom.

I guess it will depend on how well the kids can swim whether you want to be near the larger pools or the splash pool. The 70's might be a better choice with an 8 mo. old.

By the way, the contour depths (if those are the right words) of the bowling pin pool match the dimensions of a bowling pin. It's like half of a giant bowling pin. :earseek: I love the detail of DisneyWorld.
