POP Century ~ Unofficially the Grooviest FAQ Thread #6 ~April 2012

Okay POPers, I'm going to a job fair today. Send me some pixie dust!! I need to find a job that starts after September (after all my disney trips, haha!!) and one that can pay for daycare AND my Disney obsession, and still lets me off enough to go to the World!! I don't think that's much to ask, do you??

Here's some pixiedust: so you get the results you want at the job fair. Best of luck to you.

We stayed at Pop Century October 2011. We would wake up to being stuffy in the room because the A/C would have stopped due to lack of movement of people or something like that. Since we will be there in just few days (June 1) I definitely don't want the a/c to cycle off. I did a search thru this thread but could not find out any tips/tricks to keep the a/c on while sleeping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard if you tie a couple of balloons to a chair that helps. I haven't had that problem since they replaced the old thermostats a few years ago. I was there in August 2011 and the air conditioner ran fine all night.

As EpcotBill stated, using balloons is the quick fix for AC issues. [side note: we didn't have any AC problems on our last stay either.]

Looking at an old POP FAQ thread, I found this info relating to fixes/overriding the sensor:

There are still reports from a small number of guests that their individual room climate control is by default motion sensor activated. The majority, however, no longer has this kind of thermostat. To "trick" the motion sensor so the temp stays as you left it, get a helium balloon to bounce around in your room near the thermostat unit (you may want to tie it to the chair)

Generally, there is no known way to override the thermostat's motion sensor yourself; they are different than other units in other WDW resorts. *IF* by chance your thermostat unit has a "Power" button (most guests do not see this at POP any longer), the following instructions should work to turn off the sensor
  • push the power button and the down arrow (button that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly, you will see the letters "bp" where the temp normally shows. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room.
  • set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not.
  • note that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours.
  • you can call maintenance to turn off the motion sensor, however, whatever they do to it only lasts 24 hours

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

In reading this thread, it looks like on-line check in has changed since the last time we were in WDW. Can you now put in room requests when you check-in online? Are you limited in what you can request? Is it better that my TA puts in the request on my reservation? Thx! :goodvibes

I can't remember what year it was but I think it was before that. I think CBR is my least favorite resort and I want to like it so bad ... I just love all the music. I could sit by the pool for hours and just listen to it. I'm hoping I get the same type of music at OKW???? :confused3

Spend a little time at the themed pool bar & perhaps you'll find you like it better, that seemed to do it for DH when we stayed there :lmao:

CBR is my least favorite too...that's why I haven't don a mod since...except FWC (but that's so different)

It is very spread out for going to themed pool especially, when we stayed I was intitally disappointed to be put in Casitas #3 but it turned out to be a nice location, near first bus stop but close enough to walk to main bldg - walk ways with all the water was really pretty :)

We go the last week in August and come home Labor day. I'm hoping for a bounceback in the room so we can go a 2 full weeks.

Am I reading this correctly, if you get a bounceback offer you can book it to start at the end of your present stay? Did not realize this, hmmm. I always thought it was for booking another trip sometime in the distance.

Hope it works out for you and you can stay a little longer on your trip. :)

CAN'T WAIT FOR OUR FIRST STAY AT POP  Less than 80 days to go :dance3:

Yes you can put room requests in on-line. Of course you can also ask your TA to include your requests on your reservation as well. :goodvibes On-line choices for 2012:

-Request 70's
-Request lakeview
-Request 80's
-Request ground floor
-Request 60's
-Request 90's
-Request 50's
-Near Transportation

-Pack n Play
-Refrigerator (fee due at check-in)

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

Thanks Janet! :goodvibes It looks like I'll have to call my TA for my requests. We really want a quiet 4th floor room.

To to the best of my knowledge it is one shelf across only (it was in our room, 2 doubles). Perhaps it might differ if the room style is different, i.e. a King and/or a HA room. :)

 Welcome! Suggest the 70s (bldg 6 & 10), the children's playground is close by, as well as being convenient to both the busing and Classic Hall. If you would like a section with a pool, go with the 60s or 50s. In the 50s we like bldg 3 (tramp bldg) - we also add lakeview to our reservation and all three areas mentioned (50s, 50s 70s) all have lakeview rooms. :)

Just curious .... did you request adjoining or connecting rooms? I only ask as didn't want you disappointed if you did not receive connecting rooms (doorway in-between the rooms) versus adjoining, which would be rooms in close proxmity to each other. Sure you know the distinction but wanted to be also sure you had the correct notation on your reservation. :goodvibes

LOL I get it confused all the time, but my TA took care of making sure it was 'connecting' rooms. :goodvibes

When should I receive my Mickey Mail? I can't wait until it comes in the mail. We check in in 3 1/2 weeks.

Thanks for the fridge pic! Really puts the space in perspective. Now I know what i can fit in there :thumbsup2

:woohoo:
Sounds like a good plan.:thumbsup2 A tip for Forbidden Journey ...

Thanks for the heads up. In Disney we have no problem leaving everything behind in the room and heading to the parks. Not sure if we'll be able to pull this off at US but, I'm a woman on a mission. So anything is possible...even if I have to sew pockets into my bra. :lmao:

I was out shopping last weekend, and saw an attachment that you could put on your bra strap or in the front middle of your bra to hold stuff. It cracked me up!! Maybe you could use something like that? ;)

You CAN do it!! I had my camera in my shorts pocket (button closed); our passes in a little pouch/lanyard around my neck tucked in my shirt, my glasses stuffed in my bra, cell phone in another pants pocket. :)

:yay: Great news!! Happy you are recovering well, and working on getting your strength back. :goodvibes Besides the importance of good health everday, Disney is a great incentive for getting in shape isn't it?? :)

We went to US/IOA in April during Spring Break. It was really busy. I had no problems using the lockers provided. At FJ, we didn't have to get in a separate line to use lockers and then get in another line for the attraction. It was all one line, but if you needed a locker, you went off to put stuff in the locker and then were merged back into the line. A number of people who didn't need lockers would get ahead of us, but it wasn't a big deal.

I tried to put all of our stuff in our pockets, but it was uncomfortable and I just decided to bring my little bag along and see how the lockers worked. They were fine everywhere we used them including at FJ.

That's just our personal experience however. And this has nothing to do with Pop, but I wanted to let you know that if you want to bring along a bag or whatever, it can be done relatively simply. The biggest hint is to go do FJ first thing in the morning -- early.
