Pop Century - Standard Room vs. Preferred Pool View?

I have a Standard Room reservation at Pop for late August and was looking to apply the "Late Summer" special offer .. but the only rooms it is good for (that are left) are the Preferred Pool View rooms.
We had the normal "Summer" special (that only went until 8/27 .. but our stay is from 8/26-8/30 .. so I was trying to get 20% off EVERY night of our stay by applying the Late Summer discount offer) ..

Is the difference that much? Because of how the discount is applied to all four days .. I would be paying just slightly more ($20 total_ to "upgrade" to that room type, just curious if that is worth it?

Is the Preferred rooms closer to the main building? How much closer? (how much of a walk are we saving?) (Never been there) .. curious if it worth the upgrade (with the discount) for a short stay.

Also to note .. my in-laws are staying at Art of Animation .. so does a Preferred room get you closer to the bridge?

I would stick with the standard room and try to get assigned in the 60's. That will get you the closest possible location to the bridge and it will also get you a quiet room. The distance from there to the food court/bus stop is very short....2 minute walk.

All preferred rooms are within 500yds of the main building.

You can always keep trying to see if a standard room becomes available with the late summer discount.

The red on the map shows preferred rooms. There are now Standard pool rooms which would be non-red facing a pool. We always book Standard and request 50's Lake View - my view below looking at AoA. If you request 60's you would also have Lake View, close to your buses etc and close to the bridge to AoA. And your side of the building is quiet.

Thanks.

I'll keep the standard room I guess and try and request the 60s hotel.

When can you request which area to stay in? At your check-in date?

You can do online check in 60 days in advance and it will allow you to make the request in that process. If you want to you can call now and have them make a note of your request although I'm not sure that it would up your chances of having it honored.

It depends on what is important to you. We like the preferred pool rooms - you're closer to the main building, pool bar, and the busses. These rooms can be a little louder, since you're overlooking the main pool, but the noise has never been an issue for us. The preferred rooms are pretty close to the AoA bridge, too. For $20 I'd upgrade - it's worth it to us with two small kids to be close to everything.

We had a pool view room at PoP, it was not our choice, it was a tad bit louder then we like things but we just dealt with it - have fun!

So a standard pool room looks like it would be in either the 90's or 50's? Just booked 5 nights on the summer discount promo, first time staying at Pop.

Pop is a very easy resort to stay at because nothing is truly "far". We have been upgraded to Pref. Pool View before and while beautiful, I would not pay for it as the "benefits" are not worth the money, IMO. If being central is most important, I would just request 60's when you do your online check in. But, even if you are not assigned 60's, the other buildings are not bad, and everything is truly within a few minute walk!

I went ahead and did online check-in and requested highest floor in the 60s section. We'll see what we get.

I"m JUST BACK from a pool view room and NO NO NO NO NO, you do NOT want a pool view room if you plan to sleep!!! The pool MUSIC plays ALL NIGHT LONG and it is not at a subtle level! Let me tell you that Kool and the Gang get real old real fast at 1:03 am.

Wait, say what? They are actually playing music after 1:00 AM at the pool? Was there a convention or something going on? That sounds crazy. Did you call the front desk?

No, sorry this is totally false. Pool staff DO NOT play music all night long. I believe pool staff finish at 10pm. After that point the pool is technically closed. The music heard must've been from resort guests.

That is what _I_ though, but TRUST ME, I was the person there!!! Only two nights did it play all night, but it played ALL NIGHT. Even ear plugs didn't help. It was the same set of POOL music that played throughout the day. YES< I called the front desk, and no it didn't help.

I'll be sure to pack wire cutters as a backup.

We always do standard room and get assigned the 70's or 80's section - it's nice and quiet and short walk to the busstops. It depends what is important to you honestly.

Well that's just the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Btw when you called front desk you know it went to the call center and not actually the front desk right? I would march over to the front desk personally if this should happen again. That's awful!! Wonder why it played til 1am? I never heard of such a thing.

PS: 60s Lakeview is my fave section. I'd definitely pick this over pool view.
