Pop Century or All Star Movies or DVC rental

It means he has already started to walk a reservation. That still is no guarantee, though it does up his chances. But I would be very leery of him if he handles his transactions this way.
The only thing that makes me consider it is the fact that he has a couple people that vouch for him that I have messaged. I guess they could be working together though

If it is that important to you then go against all advice here. Just know that you may well loose both all your money and your vacation reservations.

It’s not THAT important. Just kind of speaking my thoughts out loud here. I’m taking in all the feedback.

But OP wants November 2020 which can’t be booked until December. It is only October. Would this person be walking a reservation two months ahead? I’m too lazy to walk one for myself, let alone walking one for a renter starting two months ahead.

Also to the OP - people may have vouched for this guy, but has anybody vouched for them? They could be in cahoots with him.

(Did I spell cahoots correctly? I don’t think I have ever used that word in writing before!)

There are definitely people that walk reservations starting in September. If the reservation is legit I imagine he intends to charge a premium for the extra effort.

He says “he already has a foot in the door” so he can secure it as a guarantee. Does this sound like it could be legit?
It’s possible that he already has a reservation for September and will be “walking” it forward. It increases his chances but it’s not a 100% guarantee. Last year, a lot of members were walking AKV value villas only to run up against a gap in the reservation system. Without getting into details, it basically prevented them from “walking” the reservation forward past the gap.

I would not be handing money over to an owner who could not provide me with a reservation number for my dates. And he cannot do that right now.

I'm not sure why people jump to the conclusion that somebody is a scammer from the information provided. I'm also in a rental group and the name given here is a frequent renter. Yes, they could 'have their foot in the door' if they are walking a reservation and that is very common in that group. There are a lot of people there that make spec reservations to rent out. I wouldn't pay until the reservation was made but I also don't see any need to jump to conclusions like some are doing here.

If he is walking, he is also probably charging more and you won't save anything versus trying for P/G.

FWIW, when you mention AKV... AKV Value is same story. You won't get it as a renter.

I've edited a couple of posts. Please refrain from posting the names of individuals you rent DVC points from. There is also a DISboards policy that prohibits directing people to or otherwise promoting Facebook groups. If you have questions about a person/transaction/event in your Facebook group, please ask in that group.

If that person is a frequent renter, he just might be a commercial renter according to DVC. I'd be aware that my reservation could be cancelled by DVC if they determine he is a commercial renter.

Ok totally unrelated, but I’m going to interrupt for a min anyway since you said this. So addonitis just struck and our offer on a resale contract was accepted. When I got the paperwork instead of having a name as the current owner it had an LLC. Would they have been a commercial renter or is there another reason they would buy dvc as it’s own corporate entity?

Not a commercial renter. Could have been a family that has incorporated for tax purposes, a family owned company who used it for their family trips or even a company that gave out trips to their employees. Commercial renters are identified by the number of reservations they make.

Oh ok, thanks. I was kind of surprised to see that. I didn’t realize buying it as an LLC was possible.

If you do a split stay, I would do the value resort first, then you will be wowed with the deluxe. I rented points from someone here on disboards. He had a long history of messages and my husband did his own background check by calling the guy at work and chatting with him. We knew we were taking a chance but it worked. He was legit and it was a pleasant experience. However, I could see where things could go wrong. We've done a 1 bdrm at Boardwalk and it was great, a 2 bdrm at animal kingdom kidani and we were wowed by the pool area, and our other villa experience was beach club and that's our favorite! The pools and convenience to HS and EP and the restaurants won us over. Stayed at POP for mother daughter trip before it was refurbed. Will be staying there again next month for mother son trip.

His prices are outrageous anyways. Find someone else.

That just means he has a current reservation that he can continue to walk to the desired dates. Yes, that is legit.

Never having done DVC rentals so I don’t really know the process involved even after reading about it, but is this true that I won’t be able to get a Boardwalk Villa Studio from 11/17-11/23? And is a split stay a bad idea for any reason?

As others have said, a standard studio will be close to impossible, but David's just got me a BWV preferred studio for October. They did not have the points available right at 11 months, but they told me there were still studios available and 3 weeks later I got my reservation. They can keep an eye on availability and let you know how it looks. Even getting a preferred it is such a great deal! Agree with what someone else mentioned - contact them before 11 months so you are are the top of their list for booking.

When my mom died my sisters and I formed an LLC to own her condo, as we were allowing a disabled family member to stay there.

Thanks for all the responses. There is a guy named *********** saying he can guarantee a studio rental at BWV September-December time frame next year. Any thoughts on the legitimacy of this?

DId you ever end up booking through that person? If so, how did it work out?
