The time has come for this TR to end. It's been a blast sharing with you with you all and I hope to see you in our PTR which will be starting very soon
So, departure day had finally come around. We were a little subdued, but tried to shake it off so we could enjoy one last meal at the resort. We are hoping to make this a tradition for future trips, that being Breakfast at Kona Cafe on departure day.
Our server showed us to our table and we started breakfast off with two Lattes and some Lilikoi Juice. I was hankering for some pancakes which we both ordered and enjoyed very much, although Dave wasn't expecting as large a stack. Honestly
After breakfast, we went back to our room to finish the last of our packing before sadly making our way down the hall and over to GCH. We always use Express Check Out so didn't need to go to reception. We left some bags with bell services before hopping in a cab to take us to DTD to check in with Virgin. Check in was painless and the bags just about made the weight restriction (we always dread the weigh in thinking they will be over the allowance).
Bags and ourselves checked, we made our way through Pleasure Island down to the Market Place to do some last minute bits. We decided to try out Ghiradelli's (a first for us). Dave went for a Strawberry Milkshake and me Vanilla.
These were delish, very flavourful esp the Strawberry and I am not a big fan of strawberry milkshakes or ice cream.
We were feeling a bit peckish and decided to go back to the Poly for a last lunch at Captain Cook's and also to pick up our bags left with bell services. We sat for a while on the ground floor lounge chairs soaking as much in as we could before making our way outside to wait for the ME.
For some reason our bus didn't turn up at its scheduled time so we were running 15mins late and it was a Mears bus rather than the good old ME

The driver wasn't the most friendly either.
We finally arrived at our terminal and made our way to security. Hopped on the fake monorail and we were in departures. Did some last min Duty Free shopping and bought some US mags for the plane and we sat down to wait for our gate to open.
Now ME usually gets guests to the airport 3hrs ahead of your scheduled flight time so we were in for a few hours wait which wasn't too bad. But this is when the drama started. It got nearer to boarding and our plane hadn't arrived. We were told by VA that the flight was going to be delayed for a couple of hours! Fantastic

So we sat back and waited, 2hrs went by and our plane still wasn't docked. By now everyone was starting to get agitated and it didn't help that the ground staff had no idea what was going on.
Finally a higher up came out and told everyone that our gate had moved and that we were all going to be reissued new boarding passes as we would be joining the next flight out. Luckily this flight was empty and could accommodate everyone as our original flight was pretty packed as it was.
I quickly texted my dad to tell him we were on a different flight number and that we would be arriving an hour later than scheduled.
Our names were finally called and we got our new passes and walked to our new gate. By now the line was huge (as they were starting to board everyone). It nearly turned ugly as people decided to form their own line and you ended up with three different lines for one entrance

At one point some horrible woman yelled at me because she thought I was pushing in, to which I promptly said are you Premium Economy because that's who's boarding right now. She backed down after that, cheeky cow!
I tell you, it was a nightmare that day and I never want to have to go through that again, esp at the end of our trip when your down enough as it is having to go home
We found out later on that the reason why our planes were switched was because on the way over a bird had gotten caught in the engine and they had to go through all the rigmarole of safety checks etc and couldn't fly the plane.
We landed with no problems and my dad was there waiting for us. When we get back its normally really early in the morning so we go straight to bed so as to avoid jet lag which is what we did. It felt so surreal being back home, but also a part of us was glad to be back after the drama the day before. I just hope (pray) it doesn't happen this year.
So that's it. I want to say thank you so much for reading along with us, its been a blast and a half and I hope you will join us for our PTR which will also include our very own Castle Wedding and an amazing honeymoon to boot
