I missed this if it has already been shared here. .364 BAC! I didn't know you could survive that!

Megan Shannon - All Headline News Staff Writer
Colorado Springs, CO (AHN) - The mother of the drunk Colorado Springs baby said she accidentally mixed her infant's formula with vodka, raising the baby's blood alcohol level to four times the legal limit.

Sarah Smith said she and her boyfriend Ryan Delaroche were getting a hotel room on Saturday. When Ryan stepped away, Smith said she used his bottle of water bottle to mix with her baby's formula, not knowing the bottle was full of vodka.

She mixed in 3 ounces of liquor and two-month-old Kristina's finished the bottle.

Smith said, "It was an honest mistake...I had no idea there was alcohol in the water bottle."

Twenty minutes after the feeding, the parents realized their baby was not responding and her eyes looked droopy. They rushed her to Memorial Hospital where it was discovered that Kristina's blood alcohol level was .364.

The baby is in good condition but remains in foster care while police investigate the couple's story. The parents said they hope their baby will soon be returned to them.

"We're going to do whatever we need to get her back," Delaroche said.

It sounds very suspicous to me. Why would the boyfriend put vodka in a water bottle? Why not just BUY a bottle of vodka and drink from that? :confused3

I'd guess that he wanted to drink his vodka on the go (in the hotel lobby) and he wouldn't arouse suspicion with a clear drink in a water bottle.

Dude's drinking straight vodka, unbeknownst to his GF. Isn't that one of the signs of a drinking problem (hiding your drinking)?

I heard that story and what I don't understand is how the baby even drank it? It had to taste absolutely awful and it seems as though it would be reflex for the baby to spit it out. :confused3

If I remember from local coverage....both mom and dad are under 21....gotta hide the liquor from everybody!! But not telling/stopping girlfriend was just stupid!

I wondered that very thing!

Alcoholics often drink vodka because it is odorless (so they think) and colorless, therefore, it looks like water. Then, they pour it in a water bottle or Sprite/7 Up bottle to disguise it. And for those that wonder, yes, I do know this to be true as I have had the nasty pleasure of being too involved with several alcoholics.

When I heard this story I had to wonder how the mother didn't notice that the liquid she was using wasn't water. As far as I know vodka and water don't exactly smell the same!

I'm just glad the baby's ok, and they figure out whats going on with the family situation.

Not necessarily. When my nephew was a toddler he grabbed my brother's beer bottle and took a swig before we could stop him. We thought he would gag and spit it out, but he loved it! It was really creepy to me, and we had to pry the bottle out of his little hands, he wanted more. :worried:
