Pools in January?

I haven't kept up with the latest regarding the temperature of the pools in the winter.

I remember that this was an issue when we went two years ago in the winter and they were not as warm as previous years.

What is the story now? I'm going in January and I hope that they are warm enough!!! Please let me know what you guys know!

We must have been there at the same time, because we were there 2 years ago in January and neither the weather nor the water was warm enough to swim! Here's hoping for better conditions on your upcoming January trip!

The last two years, I have stayed at OKW over MLK weekend. The weather was in the 70's so we were able to go swimming. We are going again in three weeks so I hope the weather is nice again. It all depends on the weather. It has been unseasonaly warm in Orlando recently.

Any additional input on this? We're going in the third week in February and are also concerned about whether the pools will be heated enough to swim in.

We go most January's, and we swim most trips, too...the pool water is considerably warmer than the air temperature (altho I couldn't begin to guess at an actual temperature)...I tend to swim for exercise early in the morning...it's freezing when I first take off sweat shirt etc preparing to get into the pool...and it's worse getting out! But the pool water itself is quite comfortable, at first and of course after I've warmed up w/a few laps...

Afternoons are almost always fine for swimming...there have been a few when the air temps don't get above 60 or so, and that's very cool for "recreational" swimming...but most of our trips we find 70s in the afternoons and that's fine by us for swimming...

Of course, any given trip you can hit a warm spell or a cold spell...I remember one T-giving week when it was consistently in the high 30s/low 40s until 9 a.m. or later...I didn't exercise-swim those mornings! But by and large we swim in January every bit as much as in May/June...

The main pool at SSR at the Springs is very nice and warm. The congress park pool is cold, and so I called it in and asked them to put on the heat (seeing as they have a NYE pool party in 2 days at midnight, it would be nice if the pool is warm).

So there doesn't seem to be any consistency.

My advice is check out the pool the first day, and if cold, call engineering and ask them to put on the heat, because it takes a day or so for the heater to kick in and maybe you can salvage some of your vacation pool time.

I was told a few years back from a few CMs that all pools are kept at 82 degrees year round and that in the summer it goes a bit higher from natural warmth of the sun but in the winter they should be at a regulated 82 degrees. No clue if this policy remains but that is what it use to be...

82 degrees is just about perfect for a commercial pool. (Yes I'm in the business) I set mine at 84. Sometimes it's too hot, sometimes it's a little cold.
The problem is that our comfort level depends on several factors. Where are you coming from, Toronto or Georgia. Is it windy or calm around the pool. What is the depth of the pool. Is it sunny or cloudy or is a large portion of the pool in shade. Was there a recent cold spell in the area, (1 or 2 degrees water temp can make a big difference in comfort level).
We almost always travel in the winter months. This past December, the air temp was in the 80's during our visit. We swam and we swam.. We had one year where we went in for 20 minutes and that was it. The pool was very warm but the air wasn't.

Last week BWV was very warm and I am picky/whimpy. I would guess 85ish.
