Just back last week from Boulder Ridge. Notwithstanding two horror stories re airports to and fro, we had our customary wonderful time in between. Having had, like so many of us, a challenging winter, we looked forward to some welcome sun and warmth, and maybe a little pool time.

We’d set aside one likely day for this and my wife eagerly went to the Geyser Springs pool to enjoy the day. This was at 10 am, only to find that EVERY pool chair and cabana was ‘’reserved’ with pool towels! That might have been ok if the pool itself were filled with a corresponding number of towel-owners.

There were 3 people in the pool.

She made do, by sitting in a table chair for the bulk of the day.

I later encountered two Cast Members who worked at the pools. I told them what was going on, and made it clear I neither expected them to be pool police, nor to take the many towels away. They commiserated and said that there is a sign to tell guests not to do this and agreed tgat maybe the sign needed to be bigger.

Don’t like to complain unless I have a solution but I guess I don’t!

When I come across a situation like that, I just move a towel and use the chair. I don’t stay in a pool chair for long, and I have yet to have someone accuse me of “stealing” their seat. I am an early swimmer (mostly to avoid a people soup situation) which probably makes a difference.

So long as there are signs not to save chairs, I am not going against the rules by doing this. I also only do this with chairs saved with resort towels. I would never move someone’s personal belongings even if they were going against the rules by saving a chair.

Sorry that this was an issue but there are no reserved loungers at any Disney resort pool except for rented Cabanas at select pools.

Your wife was, and is free in the future to simply move any towels from any lounger that was not actively occupied by one of the (3) guests using the Copper Creek Springs pool or members of their pool party.

We had this issue a couple of years ago at SAB at the YC / BC but it was easily remedied by using the towel return bins.

Was it a case of there were new rolled towels on each chair? I haven't been to a WDW resort for years but on DCL they put towels out.

But I agree with other posters, if there are no personal belongings I would move towels! Especially with so few guests in the pool.

At the WDW pools, towels are provided in bins for guests to grab whenever they need them - there are no towels put out by cast members. Someone going to the pool, throwing towels on chairs to "reserve" them for their entire party (who might not be arriving until lunch) is rude and wrong. The chairs are for the guests AT the pool, not those who might eventually arrive (or perhaps not ever arrive).

I wish more resort will do something about this. The only place that I have seen a staff actively removing stuff is Aulani. They come around and fold the towel and put it on the top of the chair. Next time they come around if the towel is not moved the stuff is removed.
agreed. Found this to be a big problem at Turtle Pond pool at OKW. Add to this people who can’t be bothered to clear their chairs when done and it really frustrates those who just want to relax at the pool.

My rule of thumb is this. If there is only a towel and no shoes, clothing, lotion etc. by the lounge chair then I take it. I was confronted once and I pointed out the sign and said that we could go to a CM and ask. They complained and walked off:) This has been a problem at WDW resorts for a long time and WDW needs to do a better job enforcing the rule. But I also feel bad for the CM's because WDW does not back them like they should.

Maybe Disney figures the situation will self regulate without too much friction between guests?

If people sit in chairs that don’t have personal property, just a towel, I bet the majority of people who come back just go find somewhere else to sit/go.

For the people trying to reserve chairs for others not yet physically at the pool, the options are the resort towel or personal belongings. Most people don’t want to leave personal belongings unattended for any length of time.

So I say go ahead, take the chair(s) that only have towels on them. And if it’s really busy and there’s just a pair of flip flops next to chair(s) that’s fine too. Sit in the chair. Maybe you’ll be ready to leave by the time the flip flops owner comes back anyway. If not, maybe you’ll offer the seat back or maybe they go find another chair.

Drop a line to Disney. They could absolutely clear out towels and belongings that appear to be left unattended- especially at blatantly obvious times of day like that, they chose not to.
