Pool Question... Not pool hopping but pool sitting?

Remember, despite the sky-high rates, the Poly IS a "public place" of sorts. Captain Cook's sells their overpriced chicken fingers to anyone with the cash, and some of their tables border on the poolside tables. Disney offers resturants, shops and rental boats to gobs of people NOT staying at the Poly. Reality is, there are always folks in the "pool vicinity" who are not staying at the Polynesian, and there is no rule against them being there.

I agree totally just buy them a drink from the Bar then let someone try and tell them to move...I have had guest for the day at many of the Deluxe resorts and while we didn't swim they did enjoy the property and yes ::yes:: we even sat down.

Have a wonderful trip.

Captain Cook's sells their overpriced chicken fingers to anyone with the cash, and some of their tables border on the poolside tables. IF a lifeguard were to come by and check ID's, your family would produce them... I can't imagine anyone would shake down a granny for ID, expecially if she wasn't swimming! Disney offers resturants, shops and rental boats to gobs of people NOT staying at the Poly. Reality is, there are always folks in the "pool vicinity" who are not staying at the Polynesian, and there is no rule against them being there.

Actually there are signs all over the place that state that the pool area, and not just the pool, is reserved for Poly guests only. So all the chairs are technically for paying resort guests and not those paying for the marina services or restaurants. While I doubt they would boot grandma out I do know from my lastest trip to the Poly that chairs are hard to find. I just returned yesterday and the place was mobbed. Finding a chair was near impossible. I would hate to think if everyone brought their old grandma there to take up yet another chair how much worse it would be.

I have never seen lthe lifeguards check id's at the Polynesian (even when large groups came over from MK swimming in their shorts/t-shirts), and we have stayed there many times. Also, Captain Cook's does offer outside seating at the tables outside, near the pool. You will not have a problem.

People often stop at the pool seating on their way out of Ohana or the Luau to enjoy a drink from the bar. They are not regiestered guests, nor are they asked to leave the poolside seating.

Enjoy your stay at the Polynesian. :wave2:

I saw the lifeguards checking IDs like crazy these past 12 days. There was a steady stream of offending pool hoppers getting kicked out. It still wasn't enough as I saw a father and two sons on the monorail getting on at the CR and commenting how they had two other two pools to check out before heading back to Movies. They were not DVC and were not checked that time at the Poly pool as I sat out my balcony and watched them enjoying the slide to their hearts content.

In this situation, if the lifeguards ask her to leave, THEY should be embarrassed, not you. If I were another Poly guest at the Poly pool it wouldn't bother me a bit to have your grandmother there.

Hey! That was me at the Poly pool enjoying the slide before going back to my value resort!! Seriously though, those people (if they even exist as I find it very unlikely that you heard them talk about pool hopping at the CR monorail then also happen to see them from your room in the Poly pool) very well could have been DVC members, as my mom's neighbors are DVC members but stay at ASMo once a year since they have 2 young boys who love Buzz Lightyear. However, the OP is not talking about pool hopping, she's talking about letting an 80+ year old great-grandma sit in a chair with her family.

Yes, I'm sure that if every Poly guest brought their families to the pool it would be mobbed, but the odds of that happening are so unlikely. The majority of people vacationing at the Poly do not have relatives in the area that they smuggle into the pool.

I totally agree with 'OnemoreTry'. We'll be at the GF in just over a week and if anyone wants to bring grandma along, that's fine with me. If I were at the Poly, I'd give up my seat for your grandma, or any elderly lady enjoying her great-grandkids, as at that age they may not have too many opportunities left. People should think about the overall picture of how having grandma there will not damage your vacation, but will create great memories for her and her great-grandkids that, in my opinion, are much more significant than the memories of telling a non-resort guest grandma that she can't spend they day with her resort guests family.

But if you really want to appease the people on this board, get her a soda from Captain Cook's and drag her chair that she is entitled to use from Captain Cook's over to the neighboring pool area. That should calm the DIS pool sitting police.

We were there last June and we had the inlaws come and visit at AKL...they sat by the pool and it was fine. I wouldn't stress about it, let them enjoy their grandkids!

Although we have never stayed at the Poly I would think the chair set-up would be similar to that at the Beach Club. The umbrella tables usually have 4 chairs--mom, dad, and two kids. If the kids are swimming your grandparents can use their chairs. Then they are not "taking a chair from someone else." I have never seen people sharing an umbrella table so the chance of you infringing on someone else's rights is slim to none. Just MHO but anyone that would have a problem with an 82 year old mobility challenged person using a chair to watch her great-grandchildren ranks right up there with Scrooge and has no business being in Disney at all.

Well, part of the problem isn't just the bodies in the water, it's also the bodies in the chairs which leave not enough for resort guests.

It might be a better option to take them and the kids to the beach where they can sit on one of the swings and watch the kids play. The beach area isn't usually very crowded during the day, so they wouldn't be taking up chairs at the pool area. If the kids really want to swim, perhaps go to the quiet pool instead, which is usually less crowded and so a couple extra people using chairs for an hour or so wouldn't be as much of an issue. I'd combine their visit with lunch or dinner at the Kona Cafe.

Your posts just keep getting more and more ridiculous. From disrespecting our military to picking on grandmothers. Who's next in line for you? The handicapped perhaps? GET A LIFE!

To the OP : by all means, bring your grandmother. For most RATIONAL people, this would be no problem.

RescueRanger- I tried to PM you but I assume you know your PM is optioned off. Take care. Threehearts

Boy, oh boy...that really musta burned you up, huh?

They can't allow one and not allow another non-resort guest.

I have a saying in my classroom. Fair in this class, does not mean that everyone gets the same. Fair in this class means that everyone gets what s/he needs. Sounds like Granny needs to visit with the family. And other people need to stop answering for Disney.

Me, I would ask at the front desk. IF they sent me to the lifeguards, I would trundle off to the lifeguards. IF they said to call 1 of 2 DISers, I'd know my answer. Luckily, I'm pretty sure that theyd have me ask 1 of the other 99.999999999% of the people around, and there would be no problem!

Have a great time! Hug Granny for all of us that don't have our Grannies any more. (Oh, and while your kids are swimming, I'm sure she could use their chair. She probably doesn't need 3 or 4 chairs, right?)

Justthat: I really did hear the man and his sons talking about poolhopping. So did the other family in the monorail car. The lady of that family rolled her eyes and made a remark to her husband that poolhopping isn't allowed unless you are DVC members. All 3 had on matching wet swim truinks and carried a hotel towel. It was quite funny to listen to these particular rednecks talk about their escapades. One son wanted to go right to the GF but the other boy heard that the Poly had a better and faster slide. They all agreed that the CR pool sucked and they weren't going back there again. The younger boy was worried that they wouldn't be able to catch a bus back to the Movies resort from the Poly. Their dad said that a Movies bus comes to the GF and the Poly alike and they would be fine. The dad turned around at that point and asked my mom if the Movie bus does go to the Poly and GF and of course my mom told them that it sure does! LOL! In my experience the poolhoppers, and I have seen quite a few, make it a point to let everyone around them know that they are hopping. They have no shame and are quite proud of what they are doing. Or just quite stupid. As for being able to see them later in the pool I sure did! I had room 3610 Samoa, which I highly recommend as it is a great room, that overlooked the pool and lagoon too. Great room and we had it for 11 beautiful days! Anyway these 3 bumpkins were very easy to spot as they were all wearing orange floral swim trunks and were whooping and hollaring as they were playing in the pool. I sat on my balcony and enjoyed my perfect view anyway!

Nope, not at all. I never let anyone ruin my vacations. I spend too much and have too great of a time to let some bum make me mad.

To the OP, I think if you are staying there and your Grandparents are having lunch with you and sitting in a chair under an umbrella table it would not be inappropriate. I do agree that your Grandmother would probably be more comfortable at the quiet pool where it is less congested and quieter. The main pool can be quite a mob scene in warm weather. Lots of people, lots of splashing and very hot.

I know most, myself included, do have a problem with nonguests taking up pool swimming space and lounge chairs when paying guests are trying to use the space they paid for.

What I do find interesting on these threads is this, if you tell people don't do this, then you become the DIS Pool Police. However if you tell them it's ok to do this, then you are just kind person.

Actually the best policy is this, the rule is and it is posted on property, pools and beach are reserved for those staying at the resort.

Ask at the front desk or a lifeguard and get an official answer.

I DID NOT DISRESPECT HER GRANDMOTHER. I told her what the policy is, and I gave her suggestions for how to acoid potential embarassment. I'm not sure how that is being disrespectful. I think it's more disrespectful to give out inaccurate information, and encourage people to do something which could cause them embarassment.

I also did not disrespect our military, only the leaders of this country who do not pay a living wage to them. As I said, if you have a problem with that, write your congressman.

Maybe you need to put your glasses on, and read my posts again.
