I am confused. Some webistes say you need pool heat thru april some thru March. Is there a certain outside temp that decides it, can we decide once we get there and decide the water is too cold?

I´m curious as well. I´m also wondering how much the pools get heated when you use the pool heat?

Hope you get an answer :)

I would say in early April get the heat pre-paid for sure.

We still turn ours on even in May, but we like our pools warm.

Also ask if the home has a pool blanket, if not, you will lose all the heat in the pool at night.

Some owners and MCs will let you pay for it and turn it on when you arrive...but it might take a day or 2 for them to turn it on...and then it's going to take another day to warm up. I would much prefer to just have it already warm when we get there, and we've read quite a few posts here on the DIS of people saying they wished they'd had it (of course there are those who don't want it or don't care too). Now, it all depends on how warm it is in Florida then too of course...and that's the real variable here....or unknown.

Most of the pool heaters are a heat exchanger, meaning they pull heat from the atmosphere. They don't work when the temp falls below 55 degrees...which means at night they don't heat at all (another reason you need a pool blanket).

You can set the temp of the water on the heaters..but 75-80 degrees is a "common" setting for most people, nice and warm! :)

My suggestion is to go with pool heat in advance! :thumbsup2

We live in our Disney vacation rental home part of the year and rent it the rest- I have been here some Aprils, and I would say totally yes to the pool heat- I suggest to all of our guests to consider it except in the heat of summer and late May- We don't make any money from it personally, but offer it as an option that covers our costs ofr the comfort of our guests... So, if it were me,and I do have a 4 year old who likes to swim each day- the answer would be yes:>)

We were in FL during the first week in April and got the pool heat. Even though it got really warm during the middle of the day, we still needed it because it did cool down significantly at night and the pool would not have been warm enough if we didn't get the pool heat. We are going this year end of April/beginning of May and we got the pool heat again because you never know at that time of year what the weather will be like, and we won't use the pool if it's too cold.
