Hi Everyone,

Looking for some help for my son. We will be visiting Disneyland this November and he is concerned with what rides he can fit on, as well as getting thru some of the turnstiles as he has heard some can be tight.
He is 6ft and about 400 pounds.. ( 56inch waist) any help, suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I went with someone who was about the same weight and waist size but shorter. They didn’t have any problems. Rides with seatbelts pull them all the way out and he may not be able to ride with someone next to him on some rides but shouldn’t have many problems!

MY BF is about the same height, weight and waist. He has more issues fitting his legs in rides without pain than his belly. The only rides he cannot fit on are Matterhorn, Space Mountain, and Incredicoaster. There is a gate between the turnstiles and your son can ask to go through that if he is worried.

Will he be ok if its a child next to him? Thanks for your help :)

Thanks GrizzlyGirl, do all turnstiles have a gate? I am hearing that the rides in Fantasyland have very small areas as well as the Haunted Mansion.

This!! My hubby also has issues with his legs fitting than his belly....he's 330# and 6'....

The situation was MUCH MUCH worse at US....he could literally only get on the dumbo-esque ride over in the Minions section....other than that, no go....again, mostly his legs....on one ride, he was mortified and embarrassed, because we literally asked 3 different CMs there about the Minions 3D ride BEFORE we got to the loading stage (after an hour in line), and it was a no go....after that, he just wanted to leave the park. So we did.

He's much happier and can ride everything at DL....I know his size is smaller than the size mentioned in the OP, but had to chime in.

As others have said there shouldn't be a problem.
Fantasyland is where I find the turnstiles tight but they are basically original.

The seat belt trick of pulling the belt all the way out BEFORE sitting down helps me tremendously.
I feel Goofy's sky school is a challenge for larger people. It is an extremely tight fit with NO knee room.
For me it was worse than riding the Matterhorn.

CM's have always been helpful and polite at Disneyland.

Our one trip to Knott's was a nightmare. The ride assistants were rude when body size made it difficult to fit into the seat. We will not return to Knott's because of our experience.

Enjoy your visit to Disneyland.

I think all the rides have a way for scooters to pass through so there should be some alternate way for him. (I may be forgetting one or two older ones that don't). You should be able to let a cast member know near the entrance that he won't fit the turnstile and they should be able to help.

We hate that ride anyway so I completely forgot about that one. Yup, that one is really painful.

As someone who at one point was 350 and 6'1 I always worried about this and even now at 265 still worry about it at other places. I don't worry about it at Disney though. There is a few rides that I agree will be tough on him height wise more than weight but its all on his own comfort.

Space Mountain - Have to completely close your legs and keep them shut the entire ride. Leg room isn't too bad but having to keep the legs closed can be a change.

Matterhorn - The very worst ride ever with the new ride vehicles. unless you are in seat 1 or 4 you have to get your feet inside two little holes in front of you. With a size 12 its not easy and then your feel like your legs are locked in and might break. No leg room at all. If you is brave enough to try make sure he gets seat 1 or 4 but its still hurts a lot and very hard to get out.

Goofy's Ski School - He might be able to ride by himself but will have to sit sideways and even then not 100 percent sure the door will close.

Swings - The swings are a tight fit for someone big and sometimes the little silver thing won't come down. I have never been brave enough to try this at Disney yet since I could never do it anywhere else.

Dumbo - I have always been so scared to try this as fear of my elephant staying on the ground but when my GS came along I had to try for him and was very happy that I was able to enjoy it with him with no problems.

Fantasy Book Rides - Most of the queues are very narrow and the turnstiles are tough but I think the taller you are the easier it is. Just remember some of the ride vehicles are small and he might have to ride alone on some of them to be comfortable. A small child would be fine but not another adult. Most of them when I do go on its with my GS and he is fine with me.

When it comes to Disney we always love it because its for everyone. The CM's are very kind. Some people can still be mean with comments and looks but please tell him to ignore them and have a great time. I know it can give a lot of anxiety and make you want to sit out as I use to not go on anything and tell people I was scared to go on it or told them it was lame. I was just afraid to be looked at and embarrassed by not getting to ride. I have always felt great going to Disney. I still stay away from other parks but its a lot harder with my GS now. I continue to struggle with it as its not easy telling a 5 year old that grandpa can't go on because he is too big. I understand all to well his fear. I hope he has a great time.

Thank You!!!! This makes me... and him feel much better

Hi. I know this is an old post but I know I came here looking for some helpful info. So I thought I would share my experience. I was just at Disneyland (CA) for Star Wars After Dark. Which was so fun. I’ve gone many times over the years and my highest weight was 345lbs. and I’m 5’2 carry mostly in my stomach. And even though I’ve been many times I still get nervous. At my highest weight I did get on Space Mountain I sat in the back and felt smooshed and the fear that ran through me when it barely clicked one time!! I had that same fear last night so I just avoided it, even though I’m 30 lbs less. I’ve never had a problem on Star Tours, and I’ve sat in the front, back middle. I do need help putting the buckle in. I’m always with a family memeber so they help. Buzz Light year is also fine. It closes, I dont have a lot room or anything but it closes. My dad usually goes with us and has bad knees so we usually skip the turnstiles. So I’m not 100% about the Indiana Jones ride, I have been on it with no problems. However last night I didn’t want to attempt it because of the turnstile (dad didn’t go this time.). Yesterday’s weight was 315, so I thought I’d be ok with a lot of the rides. At 345 I felt panic and horror when I thought I was going to be stuck in the Small World turnstiles. At this size I won’t go again, unless we use the handicap exit. Those darn things were too tight! I had almost a similar problem coming out of Haunted Mansion, which I have also been on at my highest weight. But after last night I can confirm no more turnstile. There is a turnstile at Big Thunder Railroad, I had to do the hop that I’ve heard mentioned, so yeah it was snug. But I was able to ride. Like mentioned in other posts be aware of smaller passengers. I’ve gotten on Splash Mountain can’t remember the queue though. A lot of these rides are low so weak knees may be an issue. Last night I thought I wasn’t going to be able to get out of BTM. But that could have been my fault trying to step on the seat and then out. I’ve never had issues on Pirates. Honestly at this size I have avoided all the kid type rides located behind the castle. We’re a Disney family party of three and my son is 24 so he likes the thrill rides. Heading into Star Wars land, I’ve not had issues with Smugglers Run. Its a single seat with a belt I was able to click it in myself. I had not been on Rise of the Resistance until last night. I read it was a seat belt so wasnt too worried. But OMG, the little doorway to get into the vehicle was soo tight. Again, I’m short it hit me right at my belly and it was tough. I seriously thought I’m not gonna fit. And then when I crammed myself in, the car and belt were fine. But the whole ride I was just worried about getting out. I did. But again it was tough. I don’t know what anyone else saw but I know what it was like for me. And I say that because I saw a lot of post of people who went with plus size friends/family and its nice of them to share but they’ll say things like, “they had no problems.” But that may not have been the case. My husband may have thought I had no problems on Rise, but I for sure did! I hope this info helps someone like these threads have helped me.

OK, there is a secret to Rise. BEFORE they line you up, let the CM know you need the handicap door opened in the vehicle. I have no meniscus in my knees, so I cannot pivot getting into the vehicles. They will line you up so you are in the front row with the door. Then as you go to enter, ask the person loading to open the door. The door swings out and more than doubles the width. You just need to make sure you have space for the door to close before you relax against it. When you get to the exit, just ask them to open the door.
