Hello. Our first WDW trip is just over a week away. The forecast for the first few days of our trip says thunderstrorms with around 60% chance of precipitation.

Should we bring ponchos from home, or just buy them at the parks/ resorts if we actually end up needing them? Are the ones sold by Disney expensive? We have bought ponchos in the past at Disneyland during a storm, and I remember the price being a lot more reasonable than I expected.

Depends on if you want to carry them in or not. They're in the $10 ballpark, from what I remember. Nothing crazy. However, I don't like getting wet on my way to a shop after rain starts, or having to take time out from touring to shop for a boring necessity like a poncho. I prefer to come with a poncho tucked in my bag, ready to be taken out immediately when needed. But that's just me. If you'd rather buy one onsite, it's no problem to do so.

Yeah, I'm thinking they were like $8 or so at Disneyland, so not that bad. Still, it might be nice to already have them in the backpack when we need them. Thanks for the advice!

If you but one at the park and it gets ripped, I heard they will exchange it for a new one. Just an added perk.

In the summer there are afternoon storms almost every day. They will last is occurring, and Orlando has a lot of that, they will shut down the outdoor rides. Often, because of the timing, some people will leave and the park empties some.

There are other times when you have persistent, heavy rain in the forecast.

We opt to bring on our own ponchos and carry them in our backpack daily unless the forecast is for heavy rains. Then we will take our raincoats. Imagine walking between the Epcot pavilions in a heavy storm with just ponchos. I finished one of the Kim Kommando search games in a storm. Better in a raincoat than a ponch.

I wish I had my receipt to know for sure but we just had to buy Disney ponchos at AK a few weeks ago. I think they were in the $20 each range. I don't remember exactly but I remember thinking "damn, that's high even for Disney standards!" :rotfl: But, they had a captive audience in me at that moment in time!

We bring our own. Walmart has the clear ones for $1 in the camping section, but I buy the Colman ones from Target for $1.50 because they come in colors, and I can make sure we are all in green, or blue, or etc for easier spotting. That also gives us the freedom if we want to just toss it, (though usually we just shake, roll and store) vs carrying around one that's bulkier that we just paid for at the parks, x 4

That's definitely a nice perk!

Yikes. That does seem ridiculous even for Disney.

From the looks of the radar you will need those ponchos today.

$12 each when we were there last year. One of ours ripped and they will replace them. They were pretty nice for the cost-the super nice ones for camping sell for over $30 where we live, so it didn't seem that wild to me.

Here now and it has rained off and on (more on) the whole trip. I'm glad we brought our own I just dry and re pack them every time we go back to our room. The Disney ones dont look 10x better than our dollar store cheapies.

I have been tempted to buy a rain jacket though, sleeves would be clutch this week as it isnt really hot and I don't like wet arms. If the Disney ones had long sleeves I would pay for that.

If you are like us you will bring your own and leave them in the suitcase and buy the ones at the park when it ends up raining.

Truthfully, a lot of it depends on what you want to carry with you. When my kids were in diapers I was more likely to have a poncho with me because I had a diaper bag and a stroller. Now if I carry a purse at all it is a small cross body, so I'm not going to carry a poncho.

We are going to try the Ikea ones this year as recommended by a few people on this board. We have the Disney ones and it is nice that they replace them, but given the design, they always rip around the buttons so replacing them is a necessity. It's kind of fun when it rains.... everyone leaves the park! lol

I hate ponchos. I also carry them but I loathe wearing them...we will probably just break down and take our actual rain jackets this time!

I remember the ones at Disney being pricey but I will say say are very nice for the cost! Definitely the type of thing you could bring with you in several trips in the future, like we do!
