Poncho recommendations?

Hi everyone,

Looking for a poncho to purchase for an upcoming trip (preferably from an online retailer).

We normally buy the cheap ones that don't last long, but I'm on a 2+ week trip and would like a poncho that is:
- fairly lightweight since it will be in my backpack every day
- sturdy
- big enough to cover a large backpack that I'll have with me

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the DIS!

I bought a Frogg Toggs poncho at Walmart for my last trip and really liked it. It was sturdier and longer than a "throwaway" poncho, and the hood was great. It was made of a breathable material, and didn't stick to your legs when wet (a huge pet peeve of mine!). Also came with a separate storage pouch so, when folded down, didn't get the other things in my backpack wet. I highly recommend this poncho!

We have always followed your normal course of action, buying cheap ones. I think the ones we buy at Walmart cost $1.00 so we get a bunch. That way we don't have to try to hang a 4 ponchos up in the room to dry out. The extras that we don't use on the trip we just leave in our cars in case of emergency.

It has been 6 years, but I remember at the time I thought the ponchos Disney sells when it rains were reasonably priced. I was going to just go without bringing any for our trip at the end of the month, and buy them as necessary, but I was vetoed! To be fair, during our last trip which was in the first week of December, I told the family we didn't need to bring jackets and the temps got into the 30's, so I can see why my track record regarding choosing outerwear would be questioned. :)

I am looking forward to hear what you find out.

Was it big enough to cover your backpack? I'll have my nice camera in it.

Buy ten 99¢ jobs at Walmart. Carry a few and pitch them after the rain. Just as cheap, not bulky to carry, and you don't have to worry about folding wet ponchos.

Yes, they're big enough to cover a backpack. But just to be safe, might be a good idea to put the camera inside a ziploc bag inside your backpack, too.You never know!

Go to the U.S. Cavalry store and buy a military type poncho. The are not all camo. This poncho would be big enough to cover a back pack you might be wearing. They run from 20 to 30 bucks. Well worth the cost.

Yup - I bring a big one - just like to have the whole bag covered.
