We are booked to stay at the Polynesian this Labor Day weekend and it will be our first time at the Poly. As our trip gets closer, I am starting to feel apprehensive. I truly love the YC/BC. We have stayed there the past 2 out of 3 trips. I keep weighing the pro's and cons of both resorts. I have heard so many good things about the Poly (fireworks from the beach, luau, volcano pool, etc) and I've wanted to give it a try. But then I think of the SAB pool at the YC/BC, good access to Epcot and MGM, the entertainment and dining at the nearby Boardwalk, mini-bars, etc. What a dilemma.....anyone care to put their 2 cents (or even 3 cents) in?

I'll agree that the BC/YC has great access to Epcot, but Poly is next best with the monorail within walking distance. Just the fact that you have never stayed at the Poly would make me tell you to give it a try. It is a wonderful resort. It is a very laid back resort with a spectacular view and HUGH rooms. We have decided to try all the deluxes before we go back to one, and so far we have not been disappointed!

Well, seeing as u have alreday stayed at the YBC..mayeb you should try something new..if u don't like the Polynesian (i'm sure u will love it!) then you don't have to stay there anymore. Just give it a try..i stayed there on january 03..even though some parts were under refurbishement it did not interfere with our stay....my family always stays at a different resort every time we go..welike to try new things..hope this helped!

since it is a short trip, why dont you give the Poly as try !
I love the YC, it is my favorite, but I also really really like the Poly. The theming and atmosphere is incredible.
I spent Labor day weekend at the Poly 2 yrs ago. (have stayed at the Poly 3 times altogether)
it is perfect for a short getaway...:)

only if you really will be spending most of your time at Epcot and MGM, and not much time at teh resort adn MK, then.... it would be best to stay at an epcot resort!

but...if you are going to enjoy the resort, and spend some time at MK, then go for the Poly !

the Y&B club will be there next time! :)

Ok this is only MY opinion! :)
We are Yacht/beach people!! Well in Jan we tried the Poly (concierge) and We hated it!!!! This was in the old concierge bld I know they have moved it so I dont know what condition the new concierge bld is in. The old bld was just that old! It had a smell and it was dark and dank. The staff on a whole were so unfriendly.
We are use to the brightness of the yacht and beach so we felt uncomfortable with the darkness of the poly.
We went with another couple who did not understand why my hubby and I were so unhappy at the poly till we all swithced to the Yacht an they felt there was no comparison!!
Oh yeah the game room at the poly, YUCK!! The bathrooms looked like ones from a gas station on 95!!
Sorry to not have a great opinion but it is just that my opinion. You may love the poly , many do!!! But for us there is no comparison to the Yacht or beach!! Or Boardawalk fo that matter!!!
When you return please give us your opinion!! :)

Oh I forgot to write, You can allways do what we did try the Poly and if you are unhappy switch over to the other resort!! (Just call them directly)

We tried the YC on our honeymoon and while it was nice it was not half as inviting as our stays at the Polynesian. The staff had no personality (the ones we came in contact with) and the room was never clean. Almost all the longhouses at the Polynesian have been completely gutted and the ones that have not are newer buildings that had soft rehabs a few years ago. We have always been treated like family at the Polynesian and out of all the reports I get back from people that visit for the first time only about 1 out of 20 are bad experiences.

Here is our trip report with photos of our Honeymoon and you will see the comparison of the two resorts during the same trip. We were looking forward to the YC very much and I would return but I was not blown away by the place.

My 3¢ here is that you should stay with the Poly because it is something new to try.

My opinion would be to spilt your stay between the two resorts! If you notice my sig, you'll see we will be doing that in November. Our favorite resort is the YC, but we also want to try all the other resorts. Our last trip in June was the first time we tried the resort splitting and that was with the AKL and then the BWI. EPCOT is our favorite resort so we book an EPCOT resort the last half of our trip.

Disney does a great job with taking your luggage over to your next resort. We had everything packed and they came and got it. We went to a park for the day and then went back to our "new" resort and our luggage was waiting for us.

Some people think it's a pain to pack up and switch, but for us it was liking having two vacations. We plan on doing resort switiching for all our future trips.

Well, I don't want to add to your apprehension but I'll give my two cents.

We also love YC/BC. Stayed there 3 years in a row. It's our favorite!

Well, in 2002 we decided we should try something different, just to be different. We booked the GF. It was a lovely resort. We got there late on a Saturday night. Checked in and we were impressed. But, when we woke up the next morning it became apparent that we already missed YC/BC and the Epcot Resort area and especially Stormalong Bay. So we switched to the BC.

Then, like idiots, we decided this year to save a little $$ and try something different. We got a good rate at WL. We were miserable. But, we were only staying 4 nights and then we were off to the gulf for a beach trip so we didn't change.

For us, the Epcot Resort area can't be beat. We don't have kids...so I think it's perfect for us. Shopping, dining, world showcase...all right outside your door.

Never again, never ever, will we ever try something "different" UNLESS we do a split stay. And if we split it'll be a couple nights at the "off" resort and the rest at our favorite.
