Has anyone had the sushi at the Polynesian and how is it? Our 12 year old son loves sushi and we had it two years ago at California Grill which was excellent. Anyone have both experiences? Thanks.

I've tried sushi at CG and at Kona Cafe...I thought the sushi at CG was very good, I had the deluxe sushi platter for dinner. The sushi was fresh and prepared well.

My experience at Kona was awful and I will not be going back. First, we had a ressie and still had an hour long wait. When we were finally seated, the quality of the food was poor. DD10 and I shared the sushi platter for two and it was just, well, bad. There was way too much rice on the maki rolls and the fish was warm. After a few pieces, I just had to give up. I eat sushi all the time and this was just too fishy tasting--good sushi should have a sweet and clean taste. DD10 ended up having soup from the kids menu (one nice thing, the CM didn't charge us for DD10's kid's meal, since she only had soup). DD13 had the noodles and she liked them. DH had the NY Strip which was just ok. Dessert was the only highlight of the meal and it was delicious...I had the chocolate fondue, DD13 had the Kona Kone which looked fabulous. So, next time I stay at the Poly, I might drop by Kona Cafe for dessert, but I'd plan on eating sushi at CG.

Hope this helps!

My DH and I love sushi. We have eaten at both. We have always loved CG but have felt lately it has lost its unique flair. We love the new sushi bar at Poly. The Volcano Roll was awesome...maybe the best we have ever had! If you decide to eat at Kona Cafe, you can order the sushi bar sushi there as well! We also love Tokyo Dining sushi!:thumbsup2

In December 2008 and just as recently as this past Wednesday my family and I have been to the Kona Island Sushi Bar and I have to say their Sushi tastes amazing.

Kona Combo Plate - luau California roll, salmon sashimi, tuna poke=:cloud9:

It was super fresh and the tuna poke was my favorite! Picky eaters in your party can also order off the Kona Cafe menu at the Sushi Bar.

The sushi bar does not take reservations. There are about 5 seats where you can watch them make the sushi and six or eight stolls around the window sill looking out on the monerail. Loved the sushi ate there three times on our last trip. We got take out from Captian Cooks for the kids one night and take out from the sushi counter and took it down the pool, it was great.
