I've made 17 trips to the Poly and I have been upgraded a few times. I didn't ask and actually I didn't even know it was an upgrade until I was home and on these boards. I think that sometimes there is pixie dust around you can get a free upgrade. As far as the folks who get upraded to Concierge for free I think that that happens very few and far between. I got a LV and if I was paying for that LV room I would have been disappointed. If you ask nicely at check in some people have posted having luck with this approach. I am usually not even thinking about it when we are checking in between the credit card things going on and the questions from the CM and the info they are giving you and the fact that you are excited and the kids are running around in the lobby. Then the get the lei and get to your room with your luggage. I just can't think about it. But good luck if you can keep it in your head and ask.
When you get ready to check in to the Polynesian or any of the other resorts and you ask to see if your room can be upgraded because the season is slow, do you normally have to pay to be upgraded?
