What do you think? We are staying at the Polynesian and we have heard good things about the luau? Does anyone have any opinions? Is it really worth it if the children aren't going to eat? Also if we go to the 9 PM show they will have already eaten...but is the show entertainment enough...and the food doesn't matter? I'd love your comments. thanks

Our 4 year old and 1 year old love it last year. The food is fine, nothing that a picky kid wouldn't eat.....

They loved the interactivity.....all the kids get to go on the stage and dance and there's guys juggling fire so it got 4 stars on the Kid Meter.

They serve a lot of food at the luau, its really good too. As boltjames said, there are things that even picky eaters will eat. The cost for the luau is significant and I'd personally have second thoughts about bringing the kids if they weren't going to eat, as that is so much of the evening. Besides, it wastes so much food. (not a good message to the kids... imho. I'm just weird about that kinda thing.) But that definitly is your call. Its good that you are thinking about all this now.

A better choice would be to make sure the kids won't have spoiled their appetite before the luau. Even a few hours away from candy, snacks and soft drinks will work wonders.

;) Starvation can be a powerful motivator for picky eaters. heheheh;)

The Luau no longer exists. Now the have a show called the Spirit of Aloha and the staff is being told not to call it the Luau anymore because it is more of a show. The food is about the same but a little better. I have always liked it and the kids I see there seem to like it but they do have a kid menu also with things like hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and chicken nuggets. The show has some of the luau dancing but there are new things added and a story throughout the show. They also have added in some of the Lilo and Stitch music. It seems the kids and adults enjoy the new show.

Tikiman, have you been to the new show and if so ,is it better than the old one?we were there in september and enjoyed it but it could have been alot better,JMHO.

I have not been but I got a report from a Polynesian staff member I know who went to the soft opening. She enjoyed it very much. Here is a report from someone else.

Prior to the change, my DD (6) and I went on Christmas day.... she is a VERY picky eater and wouldn't touch the regular food offered, so they brought her Macaroni and Cheese... she didn't like the taste of that either. After the show was over, she said that as much as she enjoyed the luau "next time, Mommy, let's try something else".
