No offense to all you Poly lovers out there but I feel that this resort is highly over rated. I have stayed there twice now and the first time I was very unimpressed with the staff at the Polynesian. I thought this past trip ( a week ago) why not give the Poly another try for at least a couple of days? I guess somethings never change, the staff there is horrible, with only a few exceptions. I am not a demanding person what so ever but if you do ask for something at this resort the Cast members give you that I do not give a sweat fig approach. It is rather sad because I love the theme of this resort, but compared to all the other deluxe Disney Resorts out there it cannot compare. Just simple things like cast members not knowing that Epcot and MGM are part of WDW, not knowing what a long house is at the Poly, telling me that on the night of the hurricane that I have to pay $300 dollars plus tax ( full rack rate just to stay in a room) as well as forfit my DVC points at the BoardWalk because I could not get there, not knowing what DVC is, giving me a smoking room when I requested a non smoking room, charging my room for 4 UPH when I had already told them that we all had passes, the list goes on and on.Basically the Poly is a cheap Holiday Inn with Bamboo and that is my opionion on it, I now feel that you must be off your rocker to stay at this resort over the Grand Floridian, WL, AKL, BW, BC, YC, FW etc. I am sorry that some of you will take offense to this post but this is just my opinion.

ROFL Holiday Inn!
I've never stayed at the Poly, but visited it when we stayed at the CR. It was nice, but you can tell it's old. On a future trip, my family still plans on staying at the Poly, because the GF theming just doesn't do it for me, as beautiful as it is.
I wonder about the CMs, though...maybe a bunch of new CMs were recently hired when you were there. I know that's no excuse for poor service, but it's just an idea.

I've stayed at the Royal Pacific at Universal, and we felt it was more beautiful than the Poly, with abundant and wonderful staff.

I too experienced a couple of snobby CM's and there's a couple of things I would have changed there, but overall I didn't let it ruin my trip. The hurricane messed some people up and things got frantic for them so I had to give them the benifit of the doubt. Like when we asked for another ice bucket and didn't get it or when I saw the same sheet on my bed for three days (the exact same sheet with a hole it in), but I had to laugh it off because we were having too much fun to let it get us down. Sure there are hotels all across the world where if you paid 200-300 dollars a night you get some better experiences, but also some bad. I just had to remind myself that it's a Disney deluxe resort, not a posh joint in Manhatten. We'll go back there, but not soon because it is too out of our price range for now. But we splurged and had a great time there!

Did you ask the front desk to change your rate for the night of the hurricane? We were at WL and were also billed for rack rate for Sunday night of Jeanne. We just called the front desk and they credited back the difference from rack rate to our original rate immediately. The difference was over $100 for us. One would think that Disney has a uniform policy regarding such things.

I'm sorry you didn't like the Poly, and yes you are entitled to your opinion, but I don't consider myself "off my rocker" for choosing to stay at the Poly over the other resorts you mentioned.

It's unfortunate that there were so many problems for you, with or without the hurricanes. We have had quite the opposite experience at the Poly, but then, we always start our trips expecting the best. If people take offense at your post, perhaps it's because of the offensive tone of the last few lines and not because you didn't like the Poly.

I have never stayed @ the Poly before but last night we had PS @ Ohanas. Earlier in the day we had rented a Pal Mickey and wanted to purchase one.
We went to the shop where Pal Mickey is rented/sold @ the Poly & the CM couldn't give us an answer to any of our questions regarding PAL, seemed to know little to no info on PAL, and basically shrugged us off.
We later in the evening went back to Epcot, where we originally rented Mickey, at which time the CM at the Camera Center answered all of our questions and was very helpful.
I dont know if the majority of CMs are like this @ the Poly, but that just gave me a negative opinion of them, and was the main reason why I made my purchase of PAL elsewhere. :teeth:

Kelly Nelly,

C'mon sister, give us a break. You're post was very inflamatory. Disney has different kinds of resorts for everyone's tastes. I love the Poly and have for four visits. I would NEVER say someone was "off their rocker" (which by the way is insensitive in and of itself) because they love a resort I don't care for. These boards are about sharing opinions and ideas not for putting a group of people down. Please don't mask insults by saying it's your opinion. Have a magical day.

Here's hoping your very thoughtful review will cause someone who doesn't know better to cancel their stay next Friday and I get the extra night I'm looking for.

See ya'll in the looney bin. I'll be the one sipping a Lapu Lapu and watching Wishes from the lounge (oh, in a straight jacket, of course!).

AlooooooooooooooooooHAAAaaaaaaaaa!

Make mine a MaiTai, please. Sixteen days until we checkin at the Polynesian for I think our 31st stay. Can't wait. Aloha!:boat:

Kelly Nelly, if you paid a different rate for your hurricane night than for the rest of your stay, I would contact WDW. I believe in general, the front desk can't adjust rates. In the confusion of a hurricane, I can easily imagine that front desk CMs would not have the full story.

I thought the tone of the post was hilarious, and was not offended as a potential Poly guest. Why would I care if someone says I'm off my rocker??
:rotfl:

I hope the OP will give the Poly one more chance, since he/she loves the theming, and since three time's a charm.;)

We love the Poly!

We love the CM's!

We Love the Themeing!

We have stayed at many different WDW resorts, but in my opinion, the Poly tops them all!

When I hear negative comments I just can't comprehend it!
We had such a magical experience!

In WDW and in life, I try not to let negativity spreaders influence my own personal beliefs! For a while before we went to the Poly, there were quite a few negative posts....I almost considered changing our ressies. I'm so glad we stuck with our original plan......It was our favorite resort! For everyone who dislikes a resort, there will be another who loves it.;)

Kelly Nelly I do understand what you went through, but a Holiday Inn??? LOL I can tell you are really upset. We were there 10 nights last July 4-14 2004. It was our first trip in 8 years and first at the Poly. We went all out for this vacation and when you spend that kind of money you want things to be perfect. I know I did. It is hard to deal with cast members who do not even know what a Long House is, we had one, and was very unhelpful at check in. I honestly do not understasnd why WDW lets people behind the desk at any resort, especially at a Deluxe, where people are spending $214+a night, and do not even know general resort info etc.....Whats up with that??? She was a intern, and I am adding that all interns are not like that but in more cases than not, when we encountered a rude CM or one that does not know their stuff we looked at their tag and saw that they were from a University. One intern on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride started yelling at us in line when we did not stand behind the red line. We had our fair share of things go wrong and nothing special happend to us and no one went out of their way with a gift or extra something, left mousekeeping $5 a day and not one towel animal or even arrange my kids stuffed animals for them.... but...We would still go back in a heartbeat. If I had my choice I would choose the Poly. We are trying to plan a quick 3 or 4 night in December and I want to try and get off cheap so I am looking at the WL, and I am having a hard time not wanting to go back to the Poly. It is beautiful, I do not see what people mean by old looking. You can see the MK from the resort and the Monorail is right there. You feel like you are in the middle of the magic and that is what I pay for really. We ended up in the Fiji long house and everything smelled and looked nice huge rooms. Beautiful view. So sorry about your trip.

the more people that don't like it - the more rooms for ME.

We also got back a week ago. Luckily for us we experienced none of the negatives you describe. Our experience with the resorts and the CMs was great. Sorry things didn't work out for you.

Dear Kelly Nelly
Your post was music to my ears. I am hoping a lot of people read it and agree with you. Maybe they will stay away and the rack rates might come down a bit. By the way, Can you put in a couple of digs into your next post about your whole Disney World experience. And How about the month of October? Maybe you could persuade some folks to stay home.

P.S. Don't forget about Michael Eisner

Keep up the Good Work

Sincerely
Searl Proudbottom

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences. I hate to hear all of the CM's classified as bad, though. I've always been impressed by them! An example: last time I was there, a CM was out in a golf cart driving past the longhouse I was staying in, and the people on the balcony next to me called down to him and asked where the laundry facilities were. He gave them directions, and then even offered to drive them over if they wanted to go right now! I was impressed that he was so generous!

My favorite Poly CM is one that works at the monorail stop. Always friendly, giving the kids stickers, talking to everyone, making everyone feel welcome!

Next time I can watch fireworks from my balcony at the Holiday Inn while sipping a tropical drink and overlooking a white sand beach, while being only a monorail ride away from theme parks, I'll let ya know! :teeth:

Now, could you kindly go check out the Beach Club Villas and talk a few people into canceling for December, so I can get bumped up on the waiting list? I'd appreciate it!

I hate to hear all of the CM's classified as bad, though.

The OP did not say that did she??? She just neglected to tell us about the few exceptions.

the staff there is horrible, with only a few exceptions

Kelly~ Your post is a perfect reason why there are more than one kind of resort at WDW. Different strokes for different folks :boat:

I have stayed at the Poly twice and Nov./Dec. will be my third time. I have never had a negative experience there (Just my personal observations). In fact, in my personal experience I have never had a bad experience at any resort...from the GF to All Star Sports...which leads me to wonder, how much of the experience is a reflection of the person experiencing it? Not to offend any one, but maybe negative people have negative experiences. I am not saying that Kelly Nelly is a negative person, I don't know him/her and would never make an assumption like that...but it just interesting how two people can have such a wildly different view of the same thing.

Oh yeah...and "OLD" doesn't necessarily mean "BAD"...Some people dig the fact that the Poly is one of the original resorts and think Disney has done a great job of keeping it up. I prefer to think of it as a "classic."

AGAIN..no offense intended, just my opinion. :p
