Polynesian.. Ease my Fears?

Hi everyone,

I have been reading such mixed reviews about the Poly and i'm getting worried. We are planning on staying there the last five nights of our ten night honeymoon. The first five nights we will be at the beach club.

All I'm really concerned about is that the rooms will be clean (ie: not moldy etc ). Decor and theming is neither here nor there for me.. my number one priority is cleanliness.

Is the Poly ok? I was really looking forward to staying there, but now i'm worried.

Weve stayed at the Poly 4 times since 9/01, and once we had 2 rooms. In all those rooms we never had any mold or saw anything dirty. Im sure, like anywhere, there are exceptions, but I dont think dirty is the norm for the Poly. If I did, we wouldnt be going back again in July.

We have stayed there several times and have never had trouble with cleanliness. They are in the process of remodeling, so maybe there have been problems with some of the unfinished rooms, but we haven't noticed anything. We have had troubles with the All Stars and Contemporary. We like the Poly so well we will be back again in July! So don't worry, besides, should you have some type of problem if you let them know I have no doubt they will correct the situation. We just had a magical trip to the Polynesian at the end of December for our 10th Anniversary. Both DH and I say that it is going to be so hard to stay anywhere else ever again. Our room was very clean with no mold.

I think that you will find postings with bad room conditions for any Disney hotel if you look on these boards enough. I always get worried with each choice I make and then get there and have a wonderful time.

I think you will love the Polynesian. We felt it was very romantic and had a great atmosphere for celebrating our anniversary.

Have a super time and enjoy what is so many people's favorite Disney resort!

We love the Poly. We have always enjoyed our stays there. The rooms were never musty and moldy. You will love it!

We love the Poly, and have never had any problems there. Don't let a few bad posts scare you away from a wonderful resort - there are naysayers for every WDW resort!!

We have been staying at the Poly for years and only once we had a room that was clean but that had just had the carpets cleaned. They were still damp when we went into the room. I called the front dest and our room was changed within 15 minutes. They have always been very accomadating and wonderful to us whenever we have been there. When we went last summer during the renovations they had us in a room that faced the Hawaii bldg. We never heard any noise from the site and the construction was out of our site line.

We listened to the moldy stories etc. last year and decided to stay at the Boardwalk. The BW was beautiful, but it just wasn't my thing, so after 6 days at BW we decided to see about staying at the Poly I'm so glad we did, we loved it there. We loved it enough that we are going back in July

You will find that all of the resorts at one time or another have been the recipients of negative reports. Most people are extremely happy no matter where they stay but don't post here to tell us about it. I wouldn't give too much weight to the occasional problem trip report. The Poly is a fine resort and you'll have a great time!

Oh yeah...lots and lots of mold. It's everywhere. And the stuff left out in the hallways...it's horrible. Oh yuck. You can barely breath with all the smoking going on. And the food areas....well, you can't get through all the people so it takes about 1 hr. to get fed. And the pool. Waaaay too crowded.
There. Now no one will want to go and there will be more room for the rest of us!!!!!

Thank you everyone for you encouraging comments! I feel MUCH better about our decision. Sounds like we are staying at a really cool resort!

goofy4tink: you beat me to it! I thought the same thing reading this thread, We really need to keep that rumor going or I'm going to have trouble getting an ap discount this summer.

GOSH, they just redid most of the building and the others really don't need it. We also Love the Poly and have stayed there for our last 4 trips which were at least 2 weeks each! So we have stayed a good amount of time at the poly within the last 2 years, resident of: tahiti, hawaii, figi, aoreotae (sp?), tokealau. And our only C/O has to of been our neighbors who were too loud at 4:30am and 1 am! Other than that No problem!

The Polynesian is not the same resort it once was - I have stayed there numerous times over the past 20 years - the last being in 2002 and it did stink of smoke and smell musty - we moved our room twice and it really did not help - the cleaning staff also came and went when they felt like it - skipped a few days - I prefer the Wilderness Lodge for your value and cleanliness....

The Poly is our favorite and the only one we go to now! We have been 4 times, 60 days total, in the last two years at the Poly and have never had a moldy room, or any other complaint. We are going back in April and looking forward to it!

I love the Poly! I haven't stayed there since I was a senior in college (2000) but it was great and I've never noticed any mold or dirty rooms. You will have a great time! I want to take DH back there sooooo much, but we are taking MIL and FIL this trip and MIL is a huge animal lover so AKL was a must.

Seriously....never smelled smokey or musty. If we didn't belong to DVC we would most likely be back there. In fact, dd wants to go anyway!! The atmosphere there is terrific. Loved walking around at nighttime, with the tiki torches lit up and the south seas music playing. We were just there in August 2003 and never noticed anything smelly, run-down or otherwise unpleasant!!

YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

We were there in January and I will tell you everything was 1st class. I would not hesitate to stay there again and again. In my opinion it is one of the best resorts at Disney.
CM's were top notch and very accommodating. People have mentioned that Hawaii 3rd floor is a smoking floor(certain rooms), but we never smelled any smoke, and we don't smoke.

Have been to the Polynesian twice. We unfortunately got one of those moldy/mildewy smelling rooms on our second visit. I will not let that deter me from a return, however. If I had the opportunity, I would return tomorrow! I absolutely love the resort....the theming, the beautiful and lush grounds, the meandering paths throughout the resort, the subtle music played in the background, the beach and views of Cinderella's Castle, the romance of the lit tiki torches at night, being greeted with "Aloha" from all the CMs, wonderful housekeeping services, the ease of the monorail rides to the MK and Epcot, the water transportation available to the MK and its surrounding resorts......

I think it will be the perfect place for your honeymoon, and I wish you a wonderful stay! If you happen to get a room that you are not satisfied with, just let them know. Every Polynesian CM we have ever dealt with has been wonderful. Best wishes!!
