Hello all! I’m slowly but surely inching closer to purchasing my first DVC contract, resale. I plan to purchase 150 points and use it for either a single, long stay (8 nights) or two 4 night trips at different times of the year.

My question is, how is Standard Studio availability at Poly at the 11 month window? My travel times are the second week of January and first two or three weeks of May. I may also want to take an occasional trip in October for MNSSHP, however this is not as important to me.

Should I prepare for having to book lake view in the event that the standard view rooms are booked? Do people typically walk their reservations for this time?

Thanks!

Poly owner here. Given the POLY is mostly studios, if you are booking at the 11 month mark, you shouldn't have any problem getting a standard view for those dates.

While I have you (lol), any “gotcha” potential surprises regarding owning at Poly that I should know about? How have you been enjoying Poly as your home resort?

If you book an over water bungalow, Disney will say "gotch ya"! All kidding aside, no regrets at all. I went in knowing that the bungalow point charts were crazy expensive, and that one and two bedrooms don't exist. We love the pool, the rooms, and of course the monorail access is the icing on the cake, if not the cake itself.

Thanks so much! I’m here now (concluding an 8 night trip) and I’m convinced that this is my favorite resort on property.

It just feels very… classic Disney… and I can’t wait to call myself a DVC member.

Only downside to Poly is that the laundry is not in-room and that the studio is really all that's available. We have poly and BLT because we wanted to have a 2BR sometimes for brining my parents or the inlaws, but the bungalows point price is way too high for that.

I think Poly is great choice with its lower maintenance fees, longer contract and resale value (direct pricing is $250 per point). The maintenance fees crept up this year because they did so much work there. I just see that as proof that Disney cares about this resort and will continue to invest in it.

IMO, a major downside of Poly is noise. The boats are loud, the hallways can be loud if your neighbors have been indulging, babies and kids are screaming, I've even heard loud conversations next door. I have a white noise machine, so this isn't the biggest deal to me. But I would consider this below the standards of what I expect in a $700+/night hotel.

The renovated lake view room I think is one of the best in the whole system. It was just beautiful.

Standard studios should be easy for all those times, even without Poly points. It's lake view that's harder, because there are so few. Poly wait lists do fill, because there are so many rooms.

Maybe I have bad luck, but they don't ever seem to fill for me especially for the fall months. Maybe if you are right on it at 7 months. It's no Saratoga or Old Key West for sure.

I had waitlist fill for marathon weekend and for Halloween. 7 month isn't a problem, unless it's super peak, like 50th anniversary. Both views are currently wide open for 7-11 months, with Thanksgiving and Halloween in there. Except it looks like they blocked off the whole hotel a couple days in early December, weird?

Hey, Poly owner here. It looks like your questions have been answered but I’ll give you my two cents.
No regrets owning at the Poly, does have its pros and cons like every other resort. The resort can be busy in the evening times, Love being able to hop on the monorail, walk to GF, IMHO Capt. Cooks is a great QS…
I agree with PPs that you should not have difficulty booking unless it is at popular travel time.
If your trip in January is near the marathon weekend, you may want to take advantage of the 11 month booking window, also Fall is a popular travel time along with the 1st 2 weeks of Dec.

Just got back from 10 nights at the Poly, and as my tattoo says: NO REGERTS.

Studio availability has always been pretty good, though I tend to book at the 11-month window just to be safe. And the resort itself is wonderful.

When traveling with grandparents, we will sometimes opt to book a 2-bedroom at another resort instead (a 2BR at some other resorts is not-many-more points then two studios at the Poly), just to enjoy the extra space and the full kitchen. But if we're just going as a family of 4 (5, soon!) it's ride or die for PVB.
