I have a family of five and we have always stayed at the Polynesian. Seeing the pictures of the Animal Kingdom Lodge makes me want to try it but I've heard the rooms are much smaller plus no monorail. I'd be interested in your opinions. We are staying six nights. Is it worth splitting a stay? I know it can be quite a hastle changing resorts.

We have stayed at AKL. We'll be staying at Poly/AKL/WL this December. We like to resorty hop, even with our 2 year old.

For AKL, I would suggest maybe doing 2 nights and spend a day there when you aren't doing too much in the parks. Maybe go to AK in the morning, return to the resort to swim, and watch the sunset over the savanna.

Then move over to the convenience of the Poly. We've stayed at GF so I know that the monorail does add a level of convenience. We have our own van with us so this adds to the ease of resort hopping.

Have a great trip.

The standard rooms at the AKL are the same size as the rooms at the WL or CBR. Not large enough for 5 people IMHO.

AKL does have 'deluxe' rooms that are larger and have 2 queens and a daybed (like the Polynesian). I'm not sure what the extra cost is.

I was VERY impressed with the AKL and will probably stay there again sometime. It is certainly worth a visit - especially to give 'The Boma' restaurant a try.

But I have to admit - my family is missing the Polynesian so we'll be heading back there next Mardi-Gras time!

Thank you. I do appreciate hearing people's opinions. It helps. Keep them coming!

Hi DznyMom

I think your 'split' sounds great! We recently enjoyed a split stay at AKL and BC. While we were at AKL we never left the resort. Spent our time watching the animals, exploring the resort, in the pool and dining at Boma:) . At the BC we went to MGM, Epcot many times - it was so nice to just walk in, Blizzard Beach and Disney Quest.

Next trip we are thinking of staying at the Boardwalk and the Poly. This was our first time staying at two resorts and we really enjoyed it

I have to second what NicsMom1500 suggested. Two days at AKL and just enjoy the resort and the Animal Kingdom!
