Poly with kids-what do you love about it?

What do you love about the Poly...for those of you who have traveled with kids? We are going to Disney in June, with DS 8 and DD 14 mos. So...I was pretty much set on Beach Club because of the pool (we have never been to either BC or Poly) but DH really wants to try Poly, mainly because of the monorail and because we will likely spend more time at MK.

So, what do you love about the Poly when traveling with kids? I need to know, because I'm still thinking BC may be the way to go but want to sell myself on Poly if possible so we can be in agreement.

The Poly is a great resort for kids. You are only a short monorail ride away from both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. If you plan on using a stroller this is especially good, as you do not have to fold up your stroller to get on the monorail, the way you do with the busses.

The volcano pool is right by the beach, so the kiddies can swim at night if they want, and you can kick back and watch Wishes right there! And the Electrical Water Pagent floats by there too. It is very cute with light up sea creatures and has a little patriotic part as well. Stormalong Bay at the Beach Club IS neat, but better for older kids. It is massive and has lots of deep areas. It is much easier to watch your kids at the Poly pool.

We did a split stay in 2006 between the Poly and the Beach Club. My sister's kids were 15, 12, and 6 at the time. And even though they are big on swimming, they all liked the Poly better. Partly because they liked being on the monorail line, and partly because they were disappointed that SAB closed down at night. While the Poly only closes the pool slide at night, not the whole pool.

I would do the Poly now while your kids are young, and do the Beach Club when they are a bit older.

I agree with everything maxiesmom said. In August I was at the Poly with four (4) kids (8,9 12 & 13) and it was SO convenient! We could zip over to the MK or EPCOT via the monorail with minimal wait. In addition we could just relax and swim in the volcano pool while watching Wishes or the EWP or just watch the castle change colors at night while we swam. Captain Cooks is open 24 hours a day so you can always grab something to eat--important when the kids are hungry n-o-w.

A word of warning--once you've been spoiled by staying at the Poly, it's hard to stay anywhere else.

What the others said is so true. Love the monorails, the volcano pool, the beach, the food, the grounds are great, oh, it's so nice.

One downside I will say is that we waited what seemed like a long time each time we took a bus from the Poly to Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon, Animal Kingdom, or MGM. We like to travel without a car, and the convenience of the monorails to MK and Epcot was wonderful.

Having been there in Sept/Oct with DGD age 3 and DGS age 1, I have to say that it was the best resort we could have been staying at for this age group. We had two strollers an we could just wheel right on the mono or fairy. The sandy beach was a huge hit with the kids, and the Barefoot bar was a big hit with the adults. There was plenty of space to walk around and never feel crowded, the atmosphere at night was so great with the Tiki torches lit, and it was wonderful to put the baby to bed and then sit out on the patio to watch the fireworks over the castle. Also very nice to have coffee out there in the morning while the little ones slept in. We were able to rent watercraft right there at the resort. Convenience and beauty rolled into one. Not to mention Tonga Toast.

We found that is was easier to walk to the TTC and get a bus to the parks or DTD. Seems like the buses run more often at the TTC.

Allow your husband this one, lol. The Poly is awesome for kids. My three looooved it. They wanted to be in the MK all the time.

The monorail was quick and efficient.

I loved allowing them to play in the sand in the evening while I watched wishes in my lounge chair. It was a highlight.

Meals were quick and great. Kids loved all of the options. DH and I loved the meals. Captain Cooks was wonderful for breakfast. Kona was excellent! Ohana's is so much fun for everyone.

Tonga toast and dole whip are simply delicious.

The pool is perfect size to watch your children. I always need to see them, lol. The lifeguards are vigilant as well.

My DH would say that the convenience of the monorail with kids overrides anything else. I agree.

I fell in love with the Poly. It is gorgeous!!!!

Go and have a wonderful time! It is Disney at its best IMO.

Thanks!!! I never thought about the advantage of being able to watch Wishes from the hotel...no way will we be tackling Wishes at the park this time since we are traveling with the baby!

I also like the idea of not having to fold up the stroller, it's the simple things that wear you out when it's 95+ degrees, isn't it???
