Hi i am thinking of WL for next Aug ,i realize there may still be some construction, but then i keep thinking maybe the Poly would be better..what are your views? another option would be to save money and stay at POR please help ....

I have stayed at all three resorts, and if I had to choose one, I'd go with the Poly. WL was our first deluxe and while my kids and I truly enjoyed it, our stay at the Poly this last December was one of my all time favorite trips. The location of the Poly was second to none. We loved the atmosphere and the ability to watch fireworks from the beach. We were steps from the ticket center monorail, and the convenience to MK was awesome. If you want a vacation from a vacation I would think about WL. It's kind of a pain to get to MK (some will disagree, I'm just not a big boat person), but everything else was enjoyable. The lodge feel is nice, but the rooms are a bit small. I've stayed at both POR Riverside and French Quarter. Love them both, but prefer French Quarter for it's size, Riverside for the food court and atmosphere. In my opinion you can't really go wrong...
Are you going with your family, couples trip, solo? Those kind of things would make a difference. Also, if your looking to save and wondering if you'll still have a great experience I would book POR no question. Good luck!

I had the exact same problem. Wilderness lodge or poly. I had reservations for club at the wilderness lodge for about 5 months . Then caved in for poly club level. I love the lodge and I couldn't stand to see her while she transformed. PLus I talked to club folks up there and they said you could here construction. So that clinched it for me. Ill go back when she is done.

Wilderness Lodge: On the lake and great boat transportation to MK.
Poly: On the lake and boat and monorail transportation to MK. Larger rooms as a rule.

We love the Lodge. It really does feel like an escape yet you're right next to the MK. The only downside is the size of the rooms. For us, we aren't in the rooms that much so it's fine. We do love the Poly though and it's a great choice. For us, it comes down to cost. We can usually get WL cheaper so we go there. If cost is no issue, I'd do Poly.

I expect there will still be significant construction at WL during that time. I would wait and go to the Poly this trip

I stayed at Poly only for all of my childhood trips. Now that I've got my own family, we have tried a good selection of resorts. In my opinion, Poly is in a league of its own from every resort I have tried, with the exception of GF being close behind.

My third favorite resort is AoA with Pop closely following. So in my opinion, you go Poly or GF if you have the cash. If you want to save money, skip the moderates and go to the values if AoA or Pop are available. I haven't been brave enough to try the All Stars. AoA and Pop I found to be better quality than the moderates I have tried. The Deluxes blow my mind with their themeing, the Values help my wallet while also being great resorts with a sacrifice to themeing. The moderates that I have stayed in seemed to be middle of the road, not in a good way. Mediocre themeing without saving enough money to justify the drop in quality from a Deluxe.

That being said, I just made a last minute reservation for Wilderness for the weekend, which I've never stayed at. I'll get back to you on Monday with that.

I am in kind of the same boat for our trip in March lol...I have my heart set on staying at the poly but this will be our first trip where my older DS will be 10, and my toddler will be 3...plus we are staying 2 days longer than we usually do. That being said I have done up spread sheets for different vacation options...we are considering Poly, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, & Animal Kingdom Lodge. I also made a spread sheet of comparisons to each resort and what types of activities each resort has. Now all I am waiting for is when they release the 2017 packages then hubby and me will sit down and consider all the aspects of each resort and the price of them and narrow it down from there...picking a resort has never been this complicated lol

We've stayed at both WL and Poly and while we do love the WL, the Poly is our favorite. We love the tropical atmosphere, the larger rooms, and the pool is great as it backs up to the beach with a distant view of the castle. Both are great resorts, but the Poly would be my choice. Good luck.

Absolutely agree! If it fits the budget, the Poly would be our choice as well.

I haven't stayed at the Poly, but we're planning our second trip to Wilderness Lodge. We considered Poly, and here are a few of our thoughts.

1) we really like the one-building of the lodge. If it rains we aren't trapped in our room and there's space to spread out.

2) in the evening, the Poly lobby was packed with people waiting for Ohana, etc. It was crazy and not conducive to sitting and relaxing.

3) both are very convenient to MK

4) poly has the better pool and a view of the Fireworks.

5) lodge is significantly less expensive, and we don't need rooms for 5.

Depending on how you balance these, you may have a different outcome. We love the lodge, but hubby is also from the Pacific northwest and grew up in a log house, so it's homey for him. :)

Poly. The Wilderness Lodge has a lot less wilderness than it used to, as they clear cut the woods on the beach side of the hotel (making way for bungalows). The construction there is pretty major, as well.

For your stay, I would choose the Poly. I hate construction disruption. I think it affects everything, including the staff, so I avoid it at all costs now.

The Poly is gorgeous with convenient transportation options as well as amenities that I think everyone will use. Save the Lodge til the construction is completed.

We had this same issue and decided to stay at the Poly for our trip this May but we did book 3 nights at the Wilderness Lodge for the end of August.
