Not looking for a kitchen or anything. Just a 2 night pre cruise hotel stay. It's a lot of points but I will have reservation points that I have to use. Think it's worth it?

I don't know if it's worth it points-wise, though if you have to use or lose...

The resort is fabulous and if I had more points than I could use at a DVC resort, it would be top of my list.

Yes, if you have those points already in reservation status, otherwise no.

Most of it would come from reservation points and then I'd have to use some regular points to complete the stay.

Sounds like a good option for the situation you're described.

Quick question: if you had to choose between the Polynesian and the Yacht Club for 3 nights pre cruise to see the Christmas/Holiday lights/decorations at the parks (that's the main goal this trip), which would you choose?

YC due to it's proximity to EPCOT and DHS.

I stayed at the Poly in early Dec. '12. It was probably my 5th or 6th stay at the Poly.

10 day stay, 4 days in, I moved to port Orleans riverside.

Our room was disgusting! My mother was staying at PO-riverside and I saw her room and almost had a stroke. While smaller, the cleanliness was night and day.
I could not believe I was paying twice the price for the Poly. I understand paying for the location, but it was horrid.

It wasn't only the room. I has in the Tahiti building. The elevator doors had the same "stuff" on them all 4 days, the coffee table in the common area on the third floor had the same dirt on it.

Disney credited me my first night, then gladly moved me on day 4. They said that the resort hadn't undergone a rehab in 7 years, and that one was slated to start in January of 2013. That being said, on another thread, someone did confirm for me that the rehab was indeed going on.

I am going down this december and based on what I can get thru DVC, I may have to pay out of pocket for some nights. If I have to do that, I am going to look at Wilderness Lodge and Beach Blub Villas.

All that being said, PO Riverside had just undergone a total rehab. Now that the Poly is getting one, it may be one of the nicer resorts again.

Both would be good choices - all things being equal I would pick YC. If the points you need are different for each I would choose the one for less points so I would use fewer regular points. Each has their good points - as Dean said YC neat EPCOT & HS as well as being able to see the decorations at BC, YC, BWV etc. Poly offers the monorail and the resorts along it for Christmas decorations and of course MK. Don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

I visited last December and enjoyed the holiday decorations at the Yacht Club more than the Polynesian; I found the tree in the lobby to be more impressive. Also, the gingerbread carousel in the lobby of the Beach Club was phenomenal.

If holiday overlay is important, then I would suggest going for the Yacht Club.

Now, I am sure someone will comment on holiday overlays and the difficulty of bringing a White Christmas to the South Pacific. :)
