I know the rooms are renovated, but, are they still very dark? Last stay at CR, rooms had POOR lighting...Also, moldy/funky smell referenced by some...even after the renovations? My ressie is for GV standard room. Are there any particular longhouses that are worse than others, location aside? I am considering a switch to GF while I can still get it...Any feedback appreciated.POLY is just so hyped here on the boards, looks like a fun resort.

We stayed at the Poly for the first time in February and loved it. I don't think the rooms are dark at all because there is really good lighting in the room. There's like two lights on each side of each headboard on the beds and a couple of lamps throughout the room. The window we had was quite large as well so in the day when we opened the curtains, the room got really bright. However, IMHO, the bathroom lighting isn't that great. It's kind of dim and was a little hard to see how well I was doing with putting on my makeup and not looking like a clown. Bathroom lighting aside, I think it's a great resort and I hope to stay there again really soon.

I 1st had reservations for AKL/CLUB and then I had switched to the POLY because I really liked both resorts (never stayed at either, just liked the theming), however, I ended up cancelling the Poly and went back to the AKL CLUB. I didn't like all the longhouses and it being more spread out. Like on days where it rains, you would be going through the rain getting to your room, etc. whereas the AKL is all contained in the 1 building. The pool at the Poly for the size of the resort just didn't impress me. The theme of it did, but it just looks a tad on the small side for that size of resort. I've heard comments about the pool being very crowded and the whole resort itself being noisy. I also read reviews where even though the rooms were renovated, that they smelled somewhat musty, etc. The whole theming at Poly just became less and less attractive to me and the appeal of AKL won me back:love: I still wonder why I cancelled and went to Poly in the first place. Glad I came to my senses though and rebooked the AKL:banana:  Both the Poly and AKL have their following though so it really has to be a "PERSONAL" decision for you and what you want because you will get differing opinions. As much as I listed things I didn't care for at the Poly, someone else will give reasons they didn't like AKL but for ME, I liked the offerings at AKL MUCH better and because we did Club Level, we booked the sunrise safari and just all the animals and atmosphere at the AKL, we just can't wait:cool1: :cool1: Goodluck to you though, whatever you decide on:thumbsup2

We have stayed at the poly three times and will go again. I love the decor, it's pretty relaxing for a midday break from the parks.

I don't think Poly is hyped. :sad2: Its been around since 1972 and its built a following of people who have stayed there since they were a child (like me) and people who always wanted to stay there. Its not hype that its on the monorail with easy access to MK and walking distance to the Epcot monorail (from your room). The volcano pool is not as big as some of the other pools at newer resorts but its still pretty fabulous (slide/zero entry/waterfall) and its got a view of the MK castle. Its not hype that you can watch the fireworks from the beach and then be in bed in 1 minute (even with a GV room). Its not hype that its got people who love its restaurants. I personally love that its not One Block of Hotel but its got a more intimate feel and certain longhouses have adamant fans who extoll the benefits of their favorite. (Its kind of cute really; I'm a Samoan.)

That said, I thought the GF was beautiful when we visited for the Cinderella meal. You can't go wrong either way. :yay:

I can't stand dark rooms either. To answer, in my opinion, yes. the rooms are darker than I prefer.

But...everything else outweighs that. I loooove the poly!!!!!!!

Let's face it - we aren't in the rooms much anyway and the relaxed Hawaiin feel makes up for the dark rooms.

If I wanted lighter rooms I'd book at the GF, but, oh what I would be missing.

Love the Poly!!!!!!!

The rooms are very nice. I agree with the PP that the bathroom lighting isn't the greatest. The furnishings are dark but the lighting in the room is good. GF rooms are very light and airy compared to Poly's. But the Poly rooms fit in with the theme. Its' a great resort and just more laid back than GF. I'm sure either one will be great though.

The Poly is our absolute favorite Deluxe resort. It is relaxing and has a very nice atmosphere. It has gotten even better since the refurb. I can't say enough good things about it. :)
