Poly or AOA?

They will believe it or not coast the same for our December trip. The pros of the Poly are being on the Monorail, Close to MK and EP. Cons are we are all in one room.

AOA pros are more space (Me, DH, Ds 13 and DS 11) and privacy. That's the only pro there. Can't decide which weighs out more. has anyone stayed at both? What do you recommend?

We are a family who will take a mid day break and we eat almost all breakfasts in the room (garden grocer) and bring our lunches in with us so my boys don't gorge on too much junk each day.

We have in the past always stayed at POFQ which we love but this is a celebration trip so we splurged on AOA Nemo rooms.

Thanks!

My Deluxe loving self would pick Poly. IMO has the best transportation being on monorail, boat, and walking distance to TTC for Epcot monorail. Our last stay we had fantastic transportation, never waited more then 10 min for a bus to DHS or AK. May just have been lucky

It's easier to get to ADRs in MK area with resort monorail. When we stay at Poly or GF we make most of our ADRs at MK and Monorail resorts. It's super fast to get to Epcot for dining too. Or anywhere for that matter because you just have to take monorail or boat to MK and go to bus loop to get to any resort.

Last time I stayed at Poly, my friends were at POFQ. We always got to the parks faster from Poly.

Poly rooms have 2 queens & daybed so boys can have their own beds. Request a balcony or patio to give you some additional space to get away!

Definitely the Poly- better location, better transportation, better food!!! We stayed at AOA in March and it was "nice" but we wasted so much time on busses.

I have stayed in both.
A pro you missed on AoA is 2 bathrooms. While you have 2 boys and I have 2 girls and 1 boy - that extra bathroom was awesome.
We liked having the extra space. We disliked not having a balcony or patio.
We liked the Big Blue Pool - the kids missed a water slide.
We liked the wide assortment of food at the food court but didn't consider it a nice place to have dinner so we were always leaving the resort for dinner. That was a bummer and a drag.
We had our best nights sleep at AoA - those rooms were so quiet.
AoA has completely immersive Disney theming and the kids loved it. I loved Poly theming because I found it so relaxing.

The Poly rocks for location and food. For a short trip, I'd pick the Poly, if it was going to be longer (6 days+) I'd pick AoA.

Both great options so I am sure you will enjoy either one! In your case, since you plan to take a break mid-day, I would think being at the Poly with the easier and faster transportation would win out.

Poly. We not only love the deluxe resorts, but the Poly is our favorite so it's an easy choice for me.

I would say Poly. I haven't stayed at either, however we have previously stayed at Sports,Pop, and POFQ. This year we splurged and stayed at AKL. While we loved our stays at the other resorts, we all agreed that being at a deluxe just felt extra special. From now on when we go with just myself, DH, and our kids , we will pretty much always stay deluxe (I want to try Poly next, but we are going with my mom next year, so have to do a value or mod). I'm sure you'll enjoy either, as both look great in their own way, but I do think with the ages of your boys and an afternoon rest, I would do Poly.

Poly. We stayed at AoA the year it opened and after one night there I was pricing out a move to a deluxe. AoA was uncomfortable and loud.

I seriously love AoA, but Poly, hands down. You give up privacy and a bathroom but get a much nicer resort, better transportation, and actual amenities at the Poly.

At AoA, there aren't a whole lot of nice spaces to sit around and relax when you're outside your room. At the Poly, you've got gorgeous views and a beautiful overall atmosphere. AoA has only one place to eat, the food court, and it's incredibly crowded all the time. If you're at the Poly and you want more options or better vistas, they're a monorail ride away. All in all, the Poly is more of a vacation than AoA, and you'll get a lot more bang for the same buck there.

These two resorts are really not comparable. It's like comparing the Super Bowl to a Raiders/Browns game.

It really depends on what's important for you and your family. We've stayed in a suite at AoA twice now and we really like it there. We love having 2 bathrooms and a private bedroom as well as 2 TV's. We eat breakfast in the room most mornings and the large table and chairs is a nice bonus as is the microwave. In 14 days of staying at AoA we've never found the food court to be overly crowded (we're there in June). I've heard it can be a little crazy at breakfast time. We usually eat at "off" times, but we've eaten lunch there at noon and dinner at 5:00 and while we waited a few minutes for our food at 5:00 (because most things are custom made), we never had a problem finding a table and in fact, there were usually plenty of empty tables. We ate at both Contempo Cafe (CR) and Mara (AKL) on our recent trip and had a 20+ minute wait to order at both of those locations and then still had to wait another 5-10 minutes for our food. And at both locations, we had to wait for a table and ended up sitting at a table that was too small for our family and just pulled up an extra chair. We had the same experience at Capt. Cooks on a previous trip. We don't do the dining plan and usually only eat one or two table service meals on a trip, so the location of AoA in reference to making ADR's isn't an issue for us though I can see how it could be a challenging location if you eat a lot of table service meals. We typically take an afternoon break and decide where we're having dinner while lounging in our room. We've always had really good bus service at AoA and when returning from the parks, you always have the option of taking the bus to Pop and just walking back to AoA from there. It's a lovely walk across the bridge -- especially at night. We also like to sit on a bench on the bridge at night and watch the fireworks from DHS & EP or take a walk on the walking path around the lake. The bus ride to MK is about 20-25 minutes depending on traffic so if you're planning to spend a lot of time at MK, you might be better off at the Poly (though we usually go to MK 3 different days and really didn't find it to be an inconvenience). The ride to EP, DHS, & AK are all about 10 minutes or less (AK can be a little longer depending on whether or not you have to stop at the water park first).

We were at AoA last month and because of the discounts being offered, we could have stayed at the Contemporary or the Poly for same amount as what we paid for a suite at AoA. We considered staying at one of those locations but ultimately decided the convenience of the monorail didn't outweigh the extra space, private bedroom, 2 bathrooms, and 2 TV's. I'm sure you'll enjoy either resort. They both have their pros and cons.
