Poly location request recommendations?

My husband recommended that we splurge for our upcoming trip in November and stay at the Poly! We have been to WDW twice - we stayed once at POR (way back when it was Dixie Landings!) and then March 2011 at Pop. Loved them both but one of our deciding factors this time was proximity to MK. That's the only place our kids wanted to go last time and we spent a lot of time in the bus going back and forth to Pop.

I have read several threads about locations but I'm still at a loss as to what to request. Any suggestions? Is it worth the extra $$$ to upgrade from Garden View?

Thanks for any suggestions that you might have!

We had a GV room in Samoa and loved it as we found it very convenient to everything. We were just steps from the GCH, volcano pool, quiet pool, the beach, and Captain Cooks. But with that said, I don't think there is a bad room at the Poly :goodvibes.

We had a garden view room in Tokelau. We loved it there. It's close to everything too, and the rooms are a bit larger, with better bathroom layout in the newer long houses. Tikiman has a great web site of all things Poly. You can google tikiman.

We had a GV in Tokelau and loved it. We were right on the end towards the main building and our patio was right in front of the quiet pool. You will absolutely love the transportation options here it is the best I have had at any resort especially to MK and Epcot. Oh and make reservation for Ohana it is really good. Make Ohana ressies as soon as possible because it fills up months ahead of time. If I went again I would request Samoa because we were always going to the volcano pool where we spent most of our time. Tokelau is a great central location also.

I always recommend Tokelau for garden view. It's only 3-5 minutes to anywhere on the grounds and to the TTC. It has balconies on all floors, most buildings do not have 2nd floor balconies. It has nice views of the quiet pool on one side and nice, open garden views on the other. Many rooms also have a glimpse f the lagoon to the north. Finally, being one of the newer buildings,it has the largest rooms at 476 sq ft vs 415 sq ft in the older buildings.

Tokelau, ( quiet) pool side, down towards the beach as far as possible (especially if u have younger kids (for fireworks view)

Totally agree with Tokelau! :thumbsup2 This was our garden/pool view; we were on the end closest to the parking lot:

I love the 3rd floor view. Is this close to captain cook's? Main buliding? Do you remember the room number? So for all the questions.

We must have had the same room in Tokelau! We LOVED that location, I would request it again in a heartbeat. It was like the quiet pool was our own private pool! It was just a short walk to everything - Captain Cooks, lobby, volcano pool, beach, bus & TTC.

We always get GV in Tahiti longhouse. It's right beside the beach and the walkway to the TTC for the monorail and ferry. The rooms are larger and also all have a balcony (which we really like having).

We also found WL a nice MK option. It is a good bit cheaper too and is beautiful at Xmas (not sure when you are going in Nov.)

Beware: You will be spoiled. We now find it hard to stay at the values and moderates.

:thumbsup2 Same for us. We LOVED Tokelau as is was central to everything - the Grand Ceremonial House (GCH), the TTC, and the Volcano Pool. There's even a quiet pool right outside the doors. On a rainy day, we cut through the other buildings and came out steps from the GCH on our way to the monorail.

Being one of the more recently renovated buildings, it had nice, wide hallways which really weren't a big deal until we cut through those other buildings and the hallways were really dark and narrow.

We plan to request Tokelau again for our Aug. 2013 trip!

Tahiti is my close second choice for GV. I just find the trees a little too close and it doesn't have the pool view. But it's a great building and the OP certainly would love it too.

Wow, thanks all for your AWESOME responses! Now I have a problem, though...

I called this morning as soon as I possibly could to get FD added to our stay (Nov 15-23). After a good 45 minutes on hold, the CM says "I'm sorry, there are no rooms available." She offers other locations, and of course I'm on my cell in the car (co-worker driving the two of us to a meeting), panicking and not too sure about most of the options she's offering!! I ended up changing to Contemporary, which to be honest I am not thrilled about except for the location. Considering switching to GF but then I have been reading on the threads here that there's tons of construction going on there. What to do, what to do?!?!?

I sure do! :rotfl: I keep a binder next to my computer with all the "good" info to help others out! :rotfl2: The 3rd floor room was #3917; the ground floor facing the pool was #1940. From room #1940, the walk to Captain Cooks is fairly short; from room #3917 it will be a little longer. Those longhouses are LONG and you'd be walking from the Bay Lake end. DD and her family would come down and meet us at our room. We'd then walk to the Great Ceremonial House/Captain Cook area either through the Rarotonga longhouse or take the pathway between Rarotonga and Niue. Not sure of the exact place here on Disboards but you can pull up resort guide maps and study the layout. Just remember...the longhouses are long! :rotfl: :tink:

Have no fear...you'll love the Contemporary too! :thumbsup2 I, personally, would stay far away from the GF with all the construction. I think I also read one of the pools will be closed for a short time during the remodeling. We stayed at BLT a couple of years ago and I didn't think I'd like the "contemporary" furniture, etc. Ended up putting BLT on the top of my "favorite resorts list". AND...the location is fabulous! :thumbsup2 DGD's loved the CR pool area and the "futuristic" aspect was really kinda fun!

This is our room at BLT but the furniture will be about the same at CR:

Also...as another poster said...WL is a good option. The boat ride to the MK is a super way to start the day! WL is tied with Poly as my "2nd favorite resort"! :rotfl2: :tink:

Aw, thanks for the great pics and encouragement! The more I have looked at the various threads and info, the more I do believe it will all be good. I have no doubt that being within walking distance to MK will be a great benefit! I did call yesterday and moved us from a garden view to a bay lake view in the tower based on some of the recommendations I've read (MK views were not available with free dining). Ah, only 4 more months to obsess! :rotfl2:

I've stayed at the poly the last 4 visits. Most recently we booked a garden view and ended up in Fiji about midway in overlooking the marina.

It was quite nice and just a short jaunt to the GCH for capt cookes etc

First ever stay at poly was Niue which is super close to GCH but I think one of the older longhouses. No matter, it was still magical

Being spoiled is absolutely my problem right now :rotfl: We stayed at the Poly last year. I have reservations at CBR right now and cant stop thinking about the Poly with it's great transportation, super cool pool, the beach, the fireworks at night, the boat ride to MK, the tropical atmosphere and Ohana was really good. My problem is we going to Disney when there is blackout dates with no discount yet anyway. So the Poly it's not an option without a discount

We have only been able to stay deluxe during really good discounts (40% off) which we haven't seen any for the Poly in a while. We were booked at BWI in Sept. (30% off) but got alot better deal at the Dolphin and switched. Often, they are as good a deal as the moderates.
After staying at WL last Dec. it is now our second choice for the MK area and a little more affordable. DH loved it!
